Question:
When should I expect my energy level to return?
I am 4 weeks post op (RNY). I have done well since surgery, however, I notice a significant difference in my energy level. I realize I am still healing and have a long way to go. But I was curious if anyone else has experienced this drop in energy levels after surgery. If so, when did your energy levels start to come back or increase? — jewels-okla (posted on December 27, 2007)

For me energy came back after i was able to get the 64 ozs of fluids and 60
ozs. of protein in regularly. It took me about 4-5 weeks to not feel so
exhausted-rubber legged. If i dont get my fluids in then i start to feel
crappy again, so focus on getting your fluids and protein in
..........soooo need them for weigh loss also, good luck sweetie!!!

Yes, I am about 8 weeks post op and I have the same problem, and some days
seem to be alot worst than most, but I was told when I had it done it would
take about 6 months to get full energy...

Everyone is different, but I started to feel more engery when started to
eat real food again - about 6 weeks or better. The first month - like you -
I had no energy. But now...it seems I have plenty to spare. Good luck.

Congratulations, Julie. Yes, once you begin to eat and the healing
continues along, you will get your energy back. You just went through
major surgery. Just hang in there.

I am seven weeks post op and am experiencing the same thing. I can usually
get through the day ok, but by 8 at night I want my bed. I can't even hold
my head up. I was also told this is normal and will go away with time.
Anyone notice TIME is a four letter word? :o)

I can remember for months having to take a nap every day when my 2 year old
did. You need food to fuel your body and when you have weight loss
surgery the amount of food you take in is drastically reduced. Give
yourself time. Best wishes!

Congratulations on your surgery! I had RNY April 30, 2007 and it took me
about 4-5 weeks to get my "sea legs" back. All of a sudden I
began to feel like me again. I think also once you can get in your water
and protein on a regular basis you will feel better. Good luck!!!

My energy -- even after 10 months come and go. There are time when I get
so exhausted I just want to come home and go to bed -- like today. Some
days I think its due to lack of protein and sometimes I think its lack of
water. Then there are those days or weeks that I'm fine and get just tired
-- so I think it's just body adjustments throughout the process to diet,
exercise, the weight loss and just changes in the body. My doctor
recommended I up my multi-vitamin to twice a day and I also take an iron
pill every other day or two as well as liquid B-12 from time to time --
speaking of which -- let's go take some. Happy New Year!

I can't tell you how long it takes to get your energy back.... your body
has gone from having a large amount of calories for energy to having a very
small amount. Burning fat is great but it doesn't work quite the same way
as "burning" glucose from food intake.
Your metabolism will adjust tho and hopefully you'll start feeling better
soon.
Best wishes.
