Question:
why do I sometimes throw up foam and have so much gas?
I am a month out of my surgery and still eating soft foods, but sometimes while eating soft meats, I throw up. Even though some things are on my list the doctor gave me of foods I can have, my stomach doesn't seem to like them. What to do to get enough protein? — lin40 (posted on October 2, 2007)

I have the same problem over the last two weeks, but I went so far as to
vomit when I was eating to fast. This is a form of dumping I was told by
others on this site. Instead of passing quickly through your bowels your
stomach sends it back up.
My surgeon told me to use Pepcid Complete over the counter and it helps.
He said that I may be eating to fast, or putting more food in my stomach
than I realize and my stomach is sending back up what it doesn't have room
to hold. So try just to eat one ounce at a time, really slow and kept the
antacid near at hand.
I ending up in the emergency room Saturday night because I vomited up blood
with a baked potato, it hurt like #)(*@, but it turned out ok.
Good luck

I always keep a "stash" of Any Whey Protein bullets on hand for
those days I need the extra protein. I'm four months out on Friday and
still have problems like you're having sometimes (I've either eaten too
fast or too much!!). I've had to learn to slow-w-w-w down and
"listen" to what my new tummy is telling me. When it says it has
had enough, it's had enough!!!! Hang in there...for me, I'd still do it
all over again in a heartbeat.

I am 10 weeks out and I still do this also. I think it is from eating too
fast or too much. I hate it when the foam comes up usually that is all
that comes up, but I get so nauseated. I did this just last night from
eating a salmon patty. Maybe it was to greasy. Norma Mathis

Even though you're eating soft foods, you still could not be chewing your
foods or you're also eating something that you shouldn't be. I had some
crackers a few weeks after surgery and went through the same thing and once
I stopped eating the crackers and the foamy stopped.

chances are -- if you are throwing up meat -- then you are not chewing it
enough -- you should be chewing your food so that it is the consistency of
applesauce
good luck

I had this problem when I ate something too fast and didn't chew it well
enought. You see I had blacken fish that was a little hard and I didn't
chew it enought so it pug up the stomach and didn't let stuff move thought.
I had to spit up foam until the fish moved though. I have learned that if
its not soft or has liquid constiency along with it, then I have to take
small bites and wait for some time before the next bite. I am 4 months now
and can eat a whole yogart or 1/2 off soup but only a few bites of dry
fish, chicken, tuna. But if I make tuna with egg and non fat dressing it
goes down a lot easier and I can eat a little bit more. Good luck, it will
get better.

I DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE W/MY NUTRITIONIST AND SHE THINKS THAT SOME NON
FLAVORED PROTEIN POWDER MIXED INTO LIQUIDSOR FLAVORED SHAKES WOULD GREATLY
INCREASE YOUR AMOUNT OF PROTEIN INTAKE. WE NEED ON AVERAGE OF 60 MG OF
PROTEIN PER DAY-PER bmi-i'M 255LBS. yOU MIGHT NEED LESS BUT CONSIDER THESE
THINGS-THEY DON'T TASTE THAT BAD AND THEY AT LEAST GO DOWN. MT RNY IS TO BE
DONE IN JAN OF 08' I'M EXCITED. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!
