Question:
Lexipro, anyone taken this?
I've been having panic attacks for the last several months and my doc prescribed Lexipro. I'm curious if anyone here has taken this medication and if there were any weird side effects. I keep finding myself clenching my teeth, it's odd. Also, one of the side effects is weight gain.....this is also scary. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks~Rebecca — RebeccaP (posted on February 24, 2006)

I have been taking Lexapro since right after surgery because I had been on
Effexor but because my pouch didnt like it, i switched.
Lexapro is great, the only side effect that has lingered is a 0 libido.
Well, I like it well enough but I can not climax. :( My doctor said this
happens with many but not always so severe as with me. I have tried other
meds but Lexapro works the best for me.
Good luck!

I took Lexapro after surgery due to depression because of all the
complications that I had to endure! It helped and I only had one weird side
effect that caused my skin to feel like it was burning! This side effect
lasted a few weeks and then went away. I didn't gain any weight while I was
on it and didn't have any problems "weening" off of it.

LEXIPRO IS ONE OF THE NEWER, SAFER MEDICATIONS. THIS MED HAS LESS SIDE
EFFECTS THAN OTHER DRUGS. THIS IS A GOOD CHOICE IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS
KIND OF MEDICATION.

I have not taken Lexopro but I have taken Celexa which is in the very same
family, only difference is Lexapro is a new and improved with less side
effects then Celexa. I had several side effects with Celexa such as the
grinding and clinching of my teeth which by the end of the day my jaws were
aching with sorness. I also would constintly shake my leg or rub my feet
together. I never gained weight on it that I can remember. I found that the
one that worked for me was Wellbutrin. It was excellent. I didnt have any
sexual side effects, clincing of my teeth or nervous shaking but however
after taking if for sometime I started lossing my memory in a terrible way.
To the point I was traveling in my car just down the street from where I
worked and felt like I was dropped out of the sky in a very unfamilar
place. I couldnt recognize the area for several minutes. After this
happened a few times along with forgetting names and misplacing everything
I seen my doctor. Unfortunalty this was one of the very rare side effects
to Wellbutrin. You just have to keep seeing your doctor until you find one
that works for you, Psychotropic medications work differently with each
individual. What might work for you may not work for someone else. Good
luck Jennifer

I too tried Lexipro for about a week, the entire time I clenched my teeth
so bad my jaws hurt, and I got horrible headaches, whether from the
clenching or the drug, I dont know, but I stopped taking it. My sister
(who has NEVER had a weight problem, tried Lexipro for a few months and put
on 20lbs, and she is a very very active person. Good luck! Pay attention
to what your body is saying and you will know if it is good for you or not.

Hi, Rebecca...
I was on Lexapro and Wellbutrin at the same time. Lexapro definitely
caused me to clench my teeth. I also noticed that I was clenching my
fists. I have been on many different medications for depression and some
had worse side effects than others. The most recent one that I really
liked was Cymbalta. It is brand new (maybe 1-2 years). It works on
Neuropathy and Depression. I had both, so it was very, very helpful to me.
I hope you are seeing a Psychiatrist for your medication management. The
medical doctors are great, but they basically guess when it comes to mental
health. The Psychiatrist is specifically trained in mental health as well
as the medication needed for different conditions. I went through HELL
with anti-depressants until I discovered this. I hope that helps.

Hi Rebecca, I was on lexapro for a short time & with me it caused my
symptoms to get much worse & was actaully thinking suicied. everyone is
different be careful with any med
but if you are having problems tell you dr. let her/him no what
you are feeling & maybe the dosage is too high or maybe it is not right
for you. Keep looking as there is lots of meds out there that will work.
depression is serious & hope you feel better soon. Marilyn, the

I take lexapro and I did have the weight gain; my doctor does not think
that the two are related. It was about 5-10 pounds, but I have been on it
for 3 years now and I don't have any serious side effects. Plus the weight
gain was from before I decided to do surgery. So many things have changed
in my life since making the decision to have gastric bypass. Just make
sure that you take it at the same time everyday; if I don't I have a
tendancy to be weepy.

Dear Rebecca,
First off, you look WONDERFUL! Good for you!
Secondly, I've been taking Lexapro for approximately 2 years. I think
Lexapro is awesome. I take a 20 mg dose daily, in the AM. I used to have
panic attacks while driving...now Lexapro keeps it at bay, unless I'm
having an unusal amount of stress/depression (i.e Christmas!). I recommend
it highly. However, don't "play doctor" and take more than the
recommended dose; you'll find yourself shaking like a leaf!

Hi Rebecca.....I take Lexipro and it has really helped me through hard
times.....I also take Wellbutrin with it to offset any sexual side effects
which seem to work fine for me....But just keep in mind that all meds work
different for different people....and also they take time to work....Good
Luck.....Kelly (Ohio)
