A good friend of mine who had surgery in September drinks hot decaf coffee
all day with sweet and low and skim milk. There is no problem with that.

I myself use general foods as was suggested. I have on occassion used
decaf with splenda and creamer and had no problems but it just when I
really have the taste for it.

Splenda is great, just be sure to rinse your cup well or it does weird
things to dishwashers. Also, I use fat free half and half, I can't stand
flavored creamers.

Melissa, my partner drinks decaf with Splenda -- and still uses Coffemate
-- but I think she is going to have to cut the coffeemate because it is
dairy based and LAWD, when she cuts one loose you gotta run for the hills.

I have regular coffee with cream or half & half no sugar. I won't give
it up... :). I use the cream because it is low in carbs. I don't see why
you cannot have splenda in your coffee.

I still have my morning cup o' regular joe with sweetner and non-dairy
creamer and the world has not come to an end, and I had surgery 3 years+
ago.

Why the decaf? What's up with that? Thankfully my surgeon said coffee was
okay after 4 weeks, so I've been imbibing as much as I always did. I use
half and half and Splenda, but sometimes if I want a flavored cream, I'll
use a dash of that with the half and half or get the sugar free flavors.
Oddly enough I've been enjoying it black with nothing most lately though.
As for the whole no caffeine thing, I think if there is an excuse that it
stalls weight loss, all you have to do is look at traditional diet
"stacking" where they use ephedrine, aspirin and caffeine to jump
start your metabolism and you'll see that it's not true. In fact recent
studies have shown caffeine to level out insulin levels, so personally I
think it's all personal preferences of different surgeons who decide you
need to not have caffeine.
Yes...they do call me the Coffee Queen....

I'm two years out now and I've done starbucks once or twice daily from the
beginning. I just do the sugar free vanilla and I do soy milk since dairy
bugs me now since surgery. I used to always do regular then switched to
decaf because I had heard several times that regular robs your body of
calcium and I didn't think I needed to do that. I'm sure you can do
regular or decaf just don't plan to have your vitamins around the time you
are having your coffee. Starbucks also offers sugar-free hazelnut if you
like that. I've found some other coffee places have more sugar free
options too. I haven't tried the home brands - I'll have to do that.

A little late, but heck. anyways, I drink regular coffee with creamer and
my doc said no problems. I was never a sugar in the coffee person, just
cream please. Actually I used to drink my coffee black, but since surgery I
don't care for black.
