Question:
I need help finding foods that are soft that I can eat.
I have tried all types of pureed food, and can't keep it down, (maybe texture)? I have also tried protien drinks, and they make me sick also, so what can I eat? By the way I had RNY, distal, open, on July 2nd. — [Anonymous] (posted on July 19, 2001)

Have you tried cream of wheat, oatmeal, grits, low fat yogurt? You didn't
say what type of foods you have been eating.

How about soups? scrambled eggs? bananas? Is anything staying down? If not,
get to the doc ASAP.

Hi, I haven't had surgery yet but my friend was able to eat and keep down
"Earth's Best" baby food. It's worth a try. If you continue to
not keep foods down then I think you should call your doctor. Good Luck.

I ate a lot of pureed tuna and chicken. I have a mini food processor that I
can whip it up in with a little light Miracle Whip. I also made egg salad
in it as well. I agree with the others though, if you can't keep anything
down maybe you should call your doctor.

Hi - I am 7 weeks post and on "soft foods." I also have a tough
time with most things with any texture other than that of mashed potatoes
getting stuck. My surgeon has ordered a dilation with an endoscope (a walk
in the park procedure) to expand the opening in my stomach. This will be
the 2nd time I have had the procedure. Right now I eat Hot n Sour soup
(making sure there is plenty of tofu in it). I do okay on most soups. I
also try to get in at least 2 protein shakess myoplex low carb from GNC is
NOT bad in vanilla or chocolate and they have 20 grams of protein. If I
were you, I would talk to your surgeon about a possible stricture. Good
Luck, Karan

My doc actually gave me a list of the things I am allowed to eat these
first 3 weeks post op. They include liquids and soft foods....some of the
soft foods I am allowed are grits, cream of wheat, applesauce, yogurt
(Dannon or Breyers light), soft fruits like watermelon, honeydew, bananas,
and DelMonte fruit naturals peaches and pears. The applesauce has to be no
sugar added by the way. The second week I was allowed to have fresh fish
and crab meat cooked very moist and that has been great since I was getting
tired of all the soft foods!! I haven't had any food problems as I have
strictly adhered to this list. Good luck and I agree with the others..if
you continue to have problems you need to get in touch with your doc!
