Question:
Can you have RNY if you have Chrones?
This is a question I'm asking for my hubby. — tbalmer (posted on August 10, 2009)

I don't know, but use the search engine on this Web site to get info. Just
enter the name of the disease; there's a lot of info there. Best wishes
for your husband's WL success.

You will have to ask a bariatric surgeon to evaluate you. As a non-surgeon
physician I can only guess. It will depend on how much trouble you have had
from your chrones. Have you had any bowel resections? Have you had any
fistulas, either as perforations or into other organs? Have you had any
trouble healing the bowel after a procedure? My guess is that it would
still be possible to do the surgery but you would have a greater chance of
needed an open procedure rather than lap. Hope this helps, good luck. Kevin

My daughter-in-law has chronic ulcerative colitis. I know when I've done
research on colitis they often mention Chrohns. He wants to do the
Vertical Gastric Sleeve on her instead of RNY. The problem is her
insurance doesn't cover VGS, so he is planning on doing a peer to peer with
the insurance to get them to pay. We will know in about 3 weeks. Wish her
luck and good luck with your research.
