Question:
Yikes! Got a date :o)
OK, so the long awaited approval is in and the date has been set (2/24 - RNY). I am so in the OMG! moment. In my pre-req with the nutritionist (the one who works with my doctor almost exclusively), I was surprised to learn that the 2wk pre-op "liquid" diet is really a drink for breakfast and lunch, but a sensible low-fat regular dinner. If so, why do they call it liquid then? Anyone think this is incorrect? (FYI -- I have lost 81 lbs pre-op on my own, so I hopefully have done alot to help the surgery already.) What are my guidelines for the drink? Is it a "meal replacement" or a "protein drink"? Must it be sugar free? I will of course get the info from my nut and the dr office, but you guys are a pretty darn valuable resource too! Gosh, I'm all at once scared and excited and confident and doubtful and thankful and.. did I mention scared? Thanks so much :o) — opheliafl (posted on January 28, 2009)

WHen I had my surgery 5 years ago. They gave me the drink I was suppose to
have. I had a detailed outline on what to do and when to do it. If you have
already lost that much weight on your own, you will do fantastic with the 2
week prep and the post surgical guidelines.
Congrats. Karol

You have done an amazing job of losing 81 pounds on your own. Differant
doctors have differant drinks they want you to use. You just have to wait
to see what they say.

I never did a liquid diet even post op...I began eating immediately after
surgery...But you alreaady lost 81 lbs and that is just fantastic! You are
gonna have to work hard trying to keep that off and not gain the last month
before surgery...Don't be scared! All your hard work proves you are ready
for changes and are serious about losing weight! I think you'll breeze
thru surgery and all the changes quite nicely! Good luck to you...

Karen I am just so darn proud of you. Wow! 81 pounds on your own pre-op.
That's wonderful. You are going to do great! I felt just like you do back
in August when I had my surgery. Hang on it will be worth it all!

My Dr. never put me on a liquid diet. I did soft foods for 2 weeks to give
my stomach time to heal. I ate anything I could chop up or sorften up in
the blender. I would puree meat and vegys then freeze it in ice cube trays
so they were single serving size then when it was time to eat I would just
pop it in the microwave to heat it up. I also ate every 2 hours, because I
could only eat a tiny bit at a time. I think every Dr. does things a little
diffrent but whatever works for you I am sure you will get alot of ideas
from here. Good luck and God bless.

my liquid diet was strictly liquid with sugar free popsicles and jello.
They didn't give me any protien to drink except they said i could have the
low carb slimfast. i still can't drink that. They said i could drink
anything that was no sugar. So I extended my diet moutain dews to day
before surgery. Since then (oct 15th) I haven't drank anthing other than
water and sugar free kool aid. congrats on all the hard work you've done.
