Question:
A few questions, please help me!!!!

I am almost 3 months post op. I have had an excellent result so far!! I NEVER get sick or vomit from foods, I meet and work out with my trainer 3 days a week and do cardio on my own 2 days a week. My question is this, I feel as though I am not losing weight fast enough (if that is possible) I am down a total of 55lb which is fantastic please dont misunderstand me) I have been losing approx 1.5lb-2lb a week - which is normal for an average person dieting - I feel as though I should be losing more, is this considered a plateau? Will it pick up? Also, I am paranoid about what I eat!! I focus on protein, I do not count calories. Should I be eating like someone would on a diet or should I eat normal just always eat the protein portion first? Lastly, I notice that I can eat a good deal of food now verses a month ago, is this because the swelling as gone down and I have more room now? Like I stated I never vomit and I absolutely do not eat until I feel uncomfortable or ill. I by no means want to stretch my pouch out and this scares me!!! Should I start to stop eating when I mentally picture food equvilant to an egg or keep doing what Im doing?? HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!    — LauraMarie (posted on January 14, 2009)

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm glad you posted this. I am almost 3 months out tooand lost 55lbs. I too, have not had any problems and always wonder if I'm eating too much or stretched the pouch already. Sometimes I wish I were sick to keep me in check. I feel terrible that so many of you had such bad experiences. I wonder if they really did anything to my stomach sometimes...

I would suggest checking with the docs, ladies. But if you don't feel sick; stop worrying about it. If your docs give up a thumbs up, I would just keep doing what is working now. Good Luck and God Bless, vinnigirl, retired RN

It sounds like you are doing fine! I know people will shudder when I say this...but cardio work outs need carbs and muscle work outs need protein. Here's the problem...The first few months of surgery you are losing both fat and muscle...and when you add a lot of cardio, you MUST eat small carb snacks before and after work outs because cardio will use muscle as fuel if you do not feed your body complex carbs. So you're not doing any good at all if you don't eat...Have a little fruit like banana or yogurt, beans, brown rice, starchy veggies like yams or squash....If your workout is both cardio and muscle toning...Eat a little protein snack afterwards too...OR better yet a meal..depending on when you work out...plan to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner soon after! Or for a snack...A little peanut butter on a cracker or apple (use natural...those common brands add so much sugar! Just so you know) a small protein shake or bar....Ask your personal trainer what they eat before and after a work out!!

sounds like you are doing everything ok. I would just add that I measure my food out still. I am 7 months out as of the 19th of January. I eat 2-3 ounces at a meal 3 x's a day. I have a lil scale that I bought for one of my many diets. They are relatively inexpensive. I use it for all kinds of things..not just measuring out my food. But it helps me to know that I am not over eating, as the fear of stretching out my pouch was a huge one I had right after surgery. Now I measure it out and don't worry. If I cannot eat it all...thats ok, but atleast I know I am not overeating. Good luck and way to go! Oh--I have only gotten sick once, and it was from chinese food that had too much sugar in it...Not everyone gets sick. I hear many at support group that haven't gotten sick. Hugs, Kim

I am told by by doctors that everyone is different as to the speed we lose weight. Could you be at a stall or a plateau? As for the food U eat and the calories, I use Spearkpeople.com to food journaling and nutrition information. Good luck.
