Question:
Any good high protein snacks?
I'm looking for some high protein snacks that are not too high in calories. I get hungry about midday and was, up until recently, eating low fat rice crackers. Then I found out that the carbs were way too high and to switch to something better for me with more protein. Any ideas? — C P. (posted on December 4, 2008)

Kroger grocery stores sells 'Carb Control' Yogurt. It has 80 cals. and 12
grams of protein and it is good. You can add a bit of granola or nuts for
some crunch. Christine

Yogurt and fruit; that works for me. Or sometimes cheese. Rice crackers
tend not to have much taste either in my experience.

Mix in unflavored protein into SF pudding, or
Dried Peas, or
Dried Edamame
My profile story speaks about the peas and edamame, and many in support
groups love them too. DAVE

Soy Crisps are an exellent alternative to Rice crackers...See all the
flavors here...You can find other brands too!
http://www.genisoy.com/products/snacks/soy-crisps/
There are also soy nuts, almonds, jerky, turkey pepperoni and cheese,
hummus, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese mixed with a package
of SF pudding mix! Try it with the SF pistachio, banana, creamcheese flavor
puddings! Tastes great! Top with real pistachios and sf whip creme...or
sliced bananas, or pureed or chopped strawberries and yogurt on top! It's
an awesome dessert snack. I get the frozen edamame and boil them in salted
water...chill and later I'll get a bowlful and peel and eat the soy beans
from the pods...This keeps you busy for a while and tastes great! Can use
the soy beans mixed with other beans and a little vinegarette dressing for
a bean salad snack...I mix in cooked barley and chopped peppers and onions
and cilantro for a nice flavor too...It's one of my fav snacks
lately...Sweet is not usually my choice of snack...so salty or crunchy is
what I go for...I even boil a few eggs now and then and enjoy an egg with a
celery stalk...tastes great together...I also wrap lunch meat and a slice
of cheese around a large pickle for a snack too...

I am wondering if you are eating 3 meals a day. It seems to me that at
midday you'd be having some lunch with an emphasis on protein and perhaps a
small amount of a healthy vegetable.
My favorite snack to stay off hunger is cottage cheese or some low carb
yogurt. But i am finding that if I stick to three meals a day with good an
emphasis on protein, I don't need snacks.
Hope this helps and good luck. --Kathryn

i have trouble with my sugar dropping at times so i have to eat about every
4 hrs. i used to eat yogurt, but noticed my sugar would sometimes 30min-1hr
after eating it and my nutritionist told me it's because the yogurt is a
"slidder" and doesn't stay in the pouch long enough.now i eat
alot of cheese, low fat deli meat, peanut butter, nuts, sf puddings and i
love the kashi trail mix bars. good luck...you will find it's a lot of
trial and error to see what works best for you. hope this helps..Holly

I relied heavily on yogurt and smoothies in the beginning, but as soon as
practical I moved on to beef jerky and a real staple for me was refried
beans, from either Taco Bell or Taco Bueno. The serving size was perfect
and some melted cheese on top was good too. I'm 9 years post-op and never
had any real hair loss. I had a little breakage at my temples, but I
always credited beef jerky and refried beans with saving my hair.
