Its kind of hard to answer this. I had surgery 4 years ago and I was scared
to death to drink. I started drinking beer but that went right through me.
In the past 2 years I ahve switched to vodka and tonic with lemon. i figure
the less sugar the better and no dumping. I do goo with that but it does
not take much to get you drunk. Some days I can drink about 6 to 8 drinks
and do shots and some days I can drink 1 to 3 drinks and I am feeling good
so it all depends on the person but be careful you dont want alcohol
poisoning

i am 3 mos out and doing well. i have had on occassion 1 or 2 shots and
that is really enough. I am sure later on I might be able to handle a
little more but only in moderation

I'm fourteen weeks out from lap RNY and I was told NO ALCOHOL for at least
a year ... I'm too afraid to take chances, so I'll wait until next May
before I even consider it. My nutritionist says that it only takes an
average of 2.5oz to put a gastric bypass patient over the legal limit -
that's barely more than a shot. There is nothing in the world worse than
vomiting, in my opinion, so I'm not going to do anything that might make me
sick ... It's just not worth it. I'm getting used to being the sober one
everywhere I go ... And right now my sister, her friends, and my friends
know they have a guaranteed sober driver. That's more important to me. But
then, I have to be honest - I like to drink occasionally, but I was never
that big on it and I don't miss it. I'd rather have a Diet Coke and a
cookie right now than any kind of booze! LOL!

don't be foolish. If you want to drink, don't get the surgery, it is as
simple as that.

I am in my mid twenties and when my surgeon and nutritionist said NO
alcohol I took that as NO alcohol. That is for one year. I mean alcohol is
empty non sense calories that we don't need. You need to talk to your
surgeon about this subject everyone on here goes one way or the other. I
think drinking after surgery would be foolish but that is me. Please talk
with your surgeon this is a ? he or she needs to answer for you because
there can be some serious consequences to drinking after surgery like for
instance addiction. You no longer can enjoy the food so you might turn to
alcohol. PLEASE talk to them!

I am about year out from RNY and doing well. I can drink about half of what
I used to because it hits you so hard. I have had no trouble with
occasional drinking at all. I see no problem with this--I just want a
normal life--everything in moderation. Christine

Joan--PLEASE do not trade one addiction for another. You can lead a full,
healthy lifestyle without alcohol. Discontinuing now can prevent problems
later. I am 5 1/2 years out.

No more than one mixed drink per hour. You will get intoxicated easier than
before but it doesn't last as long. And don't drink on an empty stomach.
