Question:
cherrios

Has anyone had cheerios as a crunchy snack? I love to have a half of cup late morning at my desk at work. I do this now, of course it is pre-surgery. I am wondering if I am going to be able to have them here and there after. I know it wouldn't be for quite awhile until I can eat anything solid. I just was wondering. Also, I am getting really nervous about my pre-surgery visit with the dr. Is that normal? I guess I am just so excited for this, I am just waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop.    — teresasmiles (posted on January 29, 2008)

Cheerios, although fairly good for you is loaded with carbs, they may not be a good idea for quite some time following surgery. Check with your nutritionist about when it would be appropriate to add them back to your diet. There is a cereal I snack on from time to time, Kashi GoLean, it is high fiber, low fat, low sugar and a good source of a protein snack that has some crunch. I am around 10 weeks out and I am still on my first box with about half a box left. When I do have some it is usually about an ounce, no more. Nerves are normal. Just ride it out and enjoy the ride. Good Luck, Leslie

just remember that that 1/2 cup of cheerios with liquid will swell. you may want to not try that for a few months. then try a VERY SMALL AMOUNT... no liquid with them... Don't be nervous... thats natural i guess. I am out 11 months and lost 248# 114 to go Bob

The nerves pre-op are very normal. I am 1 week out from lap RNY and I was more worried about the pre- admission visit than the actual surgery. With all that we go thru, ( mine was 10 months of tests and doctors visits) we have a right to worry that there will be something else found to set us back. I felt like I had a black cloud follow me. It will be worth all your effort. Dont let the fears beat you down. Good Luck

Your fears are of the unknown, so write done a list of all those questions that will address your fears and ask your doctor during the visit. That will make you fell a lot better after the visit and when you arrive at the hospital. My doctor spen 2 hours answering my questions and I never had a fear after than. I wished I had done things sooner, rather than putting off the surgery because of unknown fears.

I eat approx 1/2 cup of cereal in my yogurt, special K high protein. I really cannot have a serving with milk, it swells in my stomach that way and I become nauseous. Dry is ok for me too! Check with your Dr. Kriola

It's normal to be nervous everyone else get's nervous before surgery. About the cherrios I don't know because my doctor took that away from me I don't get to drink milk nor do i get to cereal of any kind, so i suggest you ask your doctor what you can and can not have.I had the Lap Band done in june 5, 2007.
