Question:
morning after pill?
Has anyone heard anything about the morning after pill being successful or unsuccessful with this surgery? I know many docs say birth control pills won't work because they don't absorb right, so very curious if anyone has had any experience with this... — wecangetright (posted on July 4, 2007)

Hmm-- I don't actually know. I was just put on the Nuvo Ring here in the
past week. Perhaps you should talk to your surgeon or gyno about it :D

That's a very good question! The Plan B pill is VERY powerful so I think
you'd be just fine. My surgeon says that BC pills are just as effective
post-surgery. I know they've been working for me b/c I stopped taking them
awhile ago and I'm still not ovulating. :( (I'm trying to get pregnant)
I would double check with your surgeon because chances are, the prescriber
of the Plan B pill won't know the specifics of WLS. Blessings, Sarah in VA

I agree with the previous poster. At a little over 2 months out, I started
back on the BC pill, and it's been working just fine for me. I have no
idea about the morning after pill though.

I'm a gyno nurse, the morning after pill is the same as taking 4 regular
birth control pills, just all together. The absorption is not going to be
as before, but should still work.

I had GBS in Nov. 2003 & have been on birth contol pills ever since,
they work just the same as before GBS. I have 2 little ones now & that
is enough for me! I had tried that nuovo ring & it did not work for
me, it fell out a few times, in bed & in the bathroom, not something I
wanted to deal with. I had also had a discussion with my doctor about the
morning after pill & she said that would work just fine even with the
GBS if needed. I take different med's daily for a few reasons & some
of them make me horrible sick, meaning almost instant vomiting & pain
so I now dissolve those in whatever I am drinking, normally diet mountain
dew, thing is, I don't know what med's are going to upset my stomach until
it happens, almost everything AFTER GBS is a learning experience. Good
Luck!

My doctor recommend depo shot, the patch or the ring for the first two
years. I chose the depo shot. I heard alot of people did not do good with
the depo shot, but Ive done fine. I am planning to get off of it in
December and try the patch.
