I buy stuff like crystal light that add flavor to my water and I drink tea
with splenda in it. My favorite drink mix is called wyler's light cool
raspberry flavor and a little of the powder goes a long way! they also have
like lemonade flavors and tea and alot of different things like crystal
light. I would highly recommed them oposed to soda if you are like me you
will try a soda and not be able to stop and I have heard that the
carbonation in soda stretches your stomach. Try to stay away from soda. I
love ICE water super cold water. also the drink mixes I mentioned. Good
luck email me if you want ok. [email protected]

have you thought of Fruit2o (http://www.kraftfoods.com/fruit2o/). It's a
great alternative to plain water. If you are looking for a beverage
alternative without all the calories, and for those who find water
consumption boring or difficult, there are delicious new alternatives such
as Fruit2O - naturally flavored water with Zero calories, Zero grams of
carbohydrate and Zero grams of sugar per serving.

~Hello; well first off @ 4 weeks out i would'nt try the soda. crystal light
has lots of flavors, vitamin waters, and minute maide makes a cherry-limeade
light that tastes pretty good. Doc said soda will stretch the pouch,
although i do drink soda occasionally now @ just a little over a year
out...however if you were a big soda addict before surgery i would'nt
recommend it..i know from watching others it can be very addicting and put
on alot of weight.I personally just like to have a taste every now and
then, i drink maybe 1-2 per month
~Good luck w/ everything...Tiffany

You ARE speaking diet soda, right? I mean, enough of the real thing and
you're wt loss is done. But that said, we were restricted from carbonation
only for 30 days. Back in the olden days before new theories came out.
I'm 13 yrs, still have restriction. BUT brown sodas may cause calcium
excretion, so it's not a good idea to even go down that road. I did, lost
bone, had kidney stones and it took awhile to get past the addiction. Mind
you, I'm not saying that soda was the sole cause of stones butn ot bones,
but it was ANOTHER contributing factor.

Soda is a no no and you should stay away from all cabonated and caffeinated
beverages. I LOVE Water Sensations, it's a clear liquid water flavoring
and one packet is sweet enough for 3-4 glasses of water (I use a 32 oz.
mini jug) and fill it once or twice a day and add one packet of the WS....I
find it difficult to drink plain water also.

I was told NO sodas what-so-ever until past 1 year and then only
occasionally. My surgeon's office is ranked number 2 in the U.S. and
number 1 in Georgia) And as far as the "olden" times, quite a
few surgeon's to this day STILL say no soda as the carbonation can and does
stretch your pouch! I drink crystal light, unsweet tea, water, milk,
nutrasweet kool aid and fruit juices that I add water to. Enjoy.

I was told no soda. I also have a hard time with plain water. My favs are
decaf iced coffee, decaf ice tea (both with splenda), celestrial seasonings
zingers (they have the mix in kind that you put in a water bottle...),
propel ext. Hope this helps!

have you asked your surgeon or nutritionist??? we were specifically told NO
soda at all -- the carbonation will make you feel full and will decrease
your food intake -- fruit juice has 'natural' sugars and that is why it is
high on the label -- good luck to you

Alright if I come off as mean so be it. Why would you go through all of
this and be so quick to revert back to your previous way of things. Granted
you are greatly restricted and can't eat some things. As far a pouch
stretching, yes that is a danger. I go to regular support meetings and I
can tell you that the people that have not given up pop(at least for the
first year) are not nearly as successful as those that don't. Even if you
are to drink diet pop beware that it might night contain regular sugar it
dose contain sugar like components (sucrose, manitol etc.). These may not
make you sick, but can impede weightloss. Think about it, how many people
do you know that chug diet pop and are still overweight? I was one of those
people who often ate products marketed as low fat, reduced fat, low sugar
and diet Coke was my favorite ( I never drank any regular pop). I still
managed to end up at 350lbs! I have since lost near 200lbs in 18 mos.
Right now you are still early in this adventure and may not see a big
payoff yet, but just wait! It is awesome and worth the things you have to
give up. I admit I still sturggle from time to time, but the fear of going
back to where I was is what keeps making the right choices. Be strong and
learn from the past, I swear you have no idea how much better life is on
the skinny side of things. Take care and best wishes. Feel free to email
with any questions (if I didn't come off as too much of a brat)-Heather

I was told that it was not just the carbonation to worry about in soda.
Soda has a high concentration of phosporic acid which loves to eat at your
bones. Being that gastric bypass patients are more likely to suffer from
bone loss....it is not a good mix.

Courtney... put the soda addiction in your past. It is not good for you,
even if you haven't had the surgery. Like other posters have said, the
phosphoric acid used to make the carbonation likes to leech the calcium
from your bones. The carbonation will, I hear not only stretch your
stomach making you miserable, but it will give you gas that would make you
wish that you hadn't indulged. Stick with the crystal lights. For treats
I will drink the diet Sobees that have no sugar carbs (diet peach tea and a
couple of fruit flavors that I can't remember the name of and FUZE
cranberry raspberry and tropical fruit are great and have only 1g sugar per
serving. Don't forget to drink at least 2 qts of free water daily. Your
body needs just the water, not mixed with anything... too. good luck to
you and congrats on your new life coming up... use your tool the best that
you can...

At four weeks out you shouldn't be thinking about soda.... I am 2 years
out and just now have tried one. I drink very little just enough to get a
taste. I am now a water drinker. I would say away from fruit juices too!!
This stuff is not good for you. High calorie drinks are not good for you.
Eat your calories, don't drink them, you will be more satisfied. Good
luck!

It would be better NOT to drink pop again but if you do, drink diet, put in
artifical sugar (it takes out the fiz). As far as fruit juice, I find them
terribly sweet. But I love OJ so I drink it half juice, half water.
Sometimes even 40% juice to 60% water. I enjoy it alot that way.

Oh, try to wait at least three months after surgery before drinking diet
pop. Let your pouch HEAL first!
