Has anyone tried to eat sushi?
Has anyone tried to eat sushi since surgery? Prior to surgery i loved to eat california rolls and was wondering if anyone has tried them? do they sit o.k in the stomach? — tkgarner99 (posted on May 11, 2007)

OMG!! YES!!! Sushi is my mainstay!! I started at 4 weeks. Meat only. Now I
eat rolls, wraps, sashimi, you name it. Of course I eat a few pieces and I
am STUFFED....I also order with soy paper now (extra protein) instead of
seaweed and try not to over do on the rice. BUT...yes....sushi is awesome.
No problem for me. Hope not for you, too!!

Yes, I am three months Post Op and I tried Sushi; maybe around 3-4 weeks
ago. It went down really well; but one or two will make you too full. Try
only one eating it very slowly.

Yes, I tried it last week for the first time at 5 weeks post op. I had an
avacado roll, i could only eat one, but it sure was great! No problems. I
am going to try again soon and maybe be able to eat 2!

Stays down fine, like said earlier, one or two - three tops is going to
make you full. Watch out for the rice though. I have to be careful, as I
can feel my blood sugar go up after eating them. But after about and hour
when I have been able to drink some water, I am fine....

Hi Toni: I eat a calfornia or spicy tuna roll often, with one change. I
have them make hand rolls and omit the rice. Rice is not good for us
because it expands in the stomach and can damage the pouch. It can cause
pain and dumping. Also, there is absolutely no nutritional benefit to the
white rice they use in sushi. So, have a California hand-roll, eat very
slowly, and see how you do. I don't know how far out you are, so take it
SLOWLY. By the way, the ginger has a lot of sugar, and can cause dumping,
so watch that. Good luck!

Hi Tony, I love sushi! I am 3 plus years out, but I eat about 3 to 4 rolls
when I eat them, and that is all I can eat, but I love my sushi! I buy
them at my market (I am military, so I use the commissary) in packs of 12.
Yum! I don't know how far out you are, but eat about 1/4 to 1/2 bite at a
time, chew well and enjoy! Take care. Patricia P.

Yes, I started eating sushi within a couple months of my surgery. I don't
remember exactly when though. I am 6+ years post-op. The one think I
would reiterate is to chew well and don't stuff yourself with rice. If you
like rolls, try the soy wrap instead of the seaweed wrap. Seaweed gets
stuck easily. Don't order too much, because you will get stuffed. Six
pieces of a california roll should be more than enough, probably too much.
I actually like the Tuna and Salmon now, when before the surgery all I ate
were the rolls. So, you enjoy your sushi!

I eat sushi and sashimi (raw fish) as well. Like everything else I now eat,
it has to be done in moderation. Don't overfill and chew well!
