Question:
Is there any alternatives resources
I am in a very low income bracket. I am on state covered medical plan. I have received 2 denials. I have spinal stenosis in my back (vertebrae pinching spinal cord). Neurologist won't do surgery because of weight (378). I have applied for SSDI but am awaiting hearing on appeals process. — tasmoon (posted on August 3, 2006)

Have you applied for Medicare/Medicad or is that the state covered medical
plan you are referring too. Which state are you in? There maybe some
state legislation that you may be unaware of that would stop the denials.
Sound like the neurologist needs to get together with your WLS (if you have
one) and write up the report for the insurance company. Do you have a
social worker assisting in advocating for you. If you do and they are not,
ask for one that is going to advocate for you.

You might try your state's vocational rehabilitation program, if you have
the intention of going back to work after you lose weight, and get your
back taken care of. I am a VR counselor, and have helped one person get
WLS.
