Sandra,
I am also a 60 yr old and will have a roux-n-y as soon as the insurance get
it in gear. I had a Nissan fundoplasty done several years ago. It will not
keep you from having surgery. You need to find a doc that does revisions.

Hi, I had a Nissen done 2 years prior to my Open RNY on 6/21/01. The
surgeon had to "take down" the Nissen before she could do the
RNY. She did the surgery open because of having to do the extra work but
it wasn't awful. I think the one thing that kept surprising me in my
recovery was how quickly I would get tired, there was pain but the pain
meds took care of it. I have not had GERD or heartburn once since my RNY
surgery. I wish you the best and if you have any questions please feel
free to e-mail me, [email protected]. Blessings, Anita

Certainly having had a Nissen fundoplication will make your bariatric
surgery more difficult (scar tissue around the area surgeons work) but not
impossible. Undoing the Nissen should not result in recurrence of GERD
either because GERD typically improves as a result of a Roux-en-Y. Find
someone skilled in laparoscopic revisions.

You might also want to look into the DS. I know of a couple of people who
were told that due to their Nissan fuldoplication the RNY was out, but the
DS was very do-able. It's als a better WLS, considering the long-term
maintained weoght loss, quality of life, etc.
