Which shakes have you tried and how did you make them up? That makes ALL the difference. Finding true love with a shake changes EVERYTHING.

You should be getting at a mininium 50-60 gm of protein in a day. If you can't do protein shakes what about buying the flavorless whey protein and mixing it in with puddings or yougurts to get you your added protein for that meal. At my support group meeting it was recommended to also take Biotin for hair loss. Just a suggestion other post ops said that it really worked. Also make sure your getting in your water that is also supposed to help. Good luck

Hello I have a great recipe for you. I got this recipe from my orientation thing from my Dr.'s office it tastes good (like chocolate milk). Has 20 grams of protien per cup. I keep a small container mixed up in the fridge and just drink it when I need it. 1 cup skim milk 1/3 cup dry non fat milk powder 1 packet (no sugar added) carnation instant breakfast the instant breakfast comes in diffrent flavors but I have only tried the chocolate. All the ingredients can be found in the grocery store and is cheaper to make than to buy the protien drinks. Hope this helps. Kim

My hair started coming our around the 5th month and I am inclined to believe it has to do with your bodie's post op reaction more than protein loss. I treid to eat scrambled egg, custard, and low fat ice crem to help with the protein. I got a wig styled to close to my hair color and length and waited the 3 awful months out. I got so fond of my wig I rather miss it now. Imagine having a good hair day every day! It did get a little itchy in Summer tho. Hang in there, the hair loss is temporary and it will grow back in beautifully. Best of luck on your journey...Kathy A in MA

I am now almost 2 years from my WLS, but I have used EAS Advantage Protien Shakes from day one. They come in so many different flavors and no after taste, they are more expensive than protein powder, but I am worth it. I also use EAS Advantage Protein bars to help subsitute my real food. I eat High protein foods. One of my most favorate things is a trail mix that I make with almonds, sunflower seed kernels and walnuts with a protein bar cut up and put in the nuts, it helps me have a good BM everyday and is loaded with protein. I think at 6 months I was getting 60 to 90 grams of protein daily. Now I get 90 to 115 grams daily.

Hi, Sorry to hear you are having problems with hair loss. I know its pretty common even though I have not yet had my surgery(still waiting for my date) I know many of my friends in my support group suffer from the same problem. The best shakes I myself have found, and my friends are at www.vitalady.com You can order samples for only a couple dollars and there is a HUGE selection of flavors and types. Just remember not to get anything over 5 grams suger and try for a shake that has 20 or more grams of protean per serving, which most of them are a 3oz serving size. Good luck and I hope you find one that you like and can stick with!
