Question:
Is 3/4 cup of meat too much?
I am 11 months post-op. I portion out my meat when i buy it into seperate bags. I put 3/4 cup of raw meat in a bag. After cooked is this too much to be eating post-op? — Sabrina H_NC (posted on September 23, 2003)

Probably not, depending on how much fat or water cooks out of the meat.
Some days I can eat close to half a cup of cooked meat (especially ground
meat) but others I can eat only a few bites. Judge by cooking some and see
how full you feel. I really don't weigh or measure my food - I just eat
til I'm comfortable, knowing that I never put much on my plate.

Depending on the type of meat, after you cook it, you may be getting only
3 - 4 oz of cooked meat. Not bad at all, 3/4 of a cup is approx. 6 oz
uncooked.

I measure meat in weight, not volume. That helps with trying to figure out
how much of a denser meat (like ham or chicken) I should have versus a
lighter one (like ground beef or fish). At six months out, I usually
portion 3 to 3 1/2 ounces in weight for meat (before cooking), and that
satisfies me just fine.
