Question:
Most foods make me nauseous

I am 4 months post op, and a lot of foods are making me really sick with vomiting, like carrots, sliced turkey, small amount of whole grain bread. Really only feel comfortable with an egg in the morning and protein shakes the rest of the day. Want to eat a wider variety of foods.    — BBilderback (posted on January 20, 2011)

Welcome to my world, however at 4 months out I was still only eating protein. My DR told his patients only eat protein until you lose 75% of your weight, then you start with complex carbs afterwards. I suffer with foods too, a lot, I have a very limited diet, b/c a lot of foods make me ill, and I am out 18 months. Listen if anyone toldyou that this procedure is a piece of cake, they were lying through their teeth. Good luck, you seem to know the right things to eat on your plan. Try Greek yogurt, it is packed with protein and good.

Boy, I wish I liked Greek yogurt! It has so much protein but I gag on it so I throw it into my homemade protein shakes! Are you chewing your food enough so you don't get sick? The only times I became sick was when I didn't take the time to chew (pulverize) my food. At four months out you might be a little careful with meat and breads. You can get more protein from refried beans - and they're already mashed!

I am four years out and this still happens to me. Sometimes I have to put my meal aside for a few minites until my stomach settles and then try again. Steer away from anything greasy. Chew protein really good. Leave off the bread. You don't need it taking up room in there right now while you are healing and needing the room for protein. Actually, forget about everything else except protein. Eat that first. If you can't get anything else in, that's okay. I know your not supposed to, but I have always had to take tiny sips of something when I have felt nausiated. It seems to help. Good luck. Just remember the changes you have made are permanent, and your new way of life is permanent. You will adjust and it will take time. But the rewards are well worth it! I promise!
