Question:
Should I eat chocolate cheese cake?

I had the Sleeve done in 12/09. I seem to crave chocolate cheese cake when I have my monthly friend. Should I be eating this cake?    — mil2473 (posted on March 16, 2010)

Only if you want to go back to the old ways & mess up the surgery, as well as never accomplish your goal. Go ahead. In other words....NO! Have the flavored yogurt in pie flavors in cups. That may solve your cravings :)

There are sugar free/fat free Instant puddings that are good, they have chocolate fudge and cheesecake flavors, maybe you could mix them. They're in the Jello aisle at my local store. They work for me when I get those cravings. Good luck!

I would say only eat it if it is sugar free. The cravings will pass in time. Good luck.

At first I thought this question was a joke...LOL We all know what we should and should not eat...nothing has changed due to the bariatric surgery. CAN YOU EAT IT...sure, SHOULD YOU EAT IT EVERY MONTH...LOL NO!

We all have to remember that WLS is just a tool. It is up to us to change our eating habits for the better. Eating sugar causes a more intense craving for more sugar. The other killer is that something like cheese cake goes down very easily. Take the others advice and stick with the sugar free stuff. I had the sleeve in August and still am fighting cravings, but I know that if I give in to it, it will become a habit just like before. You will be much happier and more successful by choosing another option.

Definitely NO!!!! Giving in to those cravings will eventually take you right back to food controlling you in the long run. I find that anything I am craving, I find a substitute for it that is very similar in taste but low calorie, low sugar instead. There are plenty of choices out there, you just have to look for them. Decide that making healthy choices is more important than what you are craving. The only thing you will be giving up is unhealthy food or desserts that are bad for you anyway besides making you put on weight again. Remember, you aren't on a diet....you are choosing to eat healthy and be as healthy as you can be for the rest of your life. Good luck.

No NO do not eat that....You think you can eat it only at that time of the month then you will get in the habit and think you can eat it more often..Don't get started on that again...Thats what got you in this situation in the first place

I can't even think of a nice way to answer this question. Is cheesecake listed on the food plan your dr. gave you as a post surgery diet? If it is..EAT IT....If it is not DONT.

When I first saw this question my first response was going to be like everyone else. However, I am now 2 years out and had to think. Old habits die hard. I would not suggest eating cheese cake at all, for more than just the obvious reason that it is full of fat and sugar and that is no way to loose the pounds. I don't know how far out you are but if you have never experienced the "dumping" count your self lucky. High fat content or high sugar content and or foods high in milk fats can cause you to be very ill. If for no other reason than to save yourself the agony of dumping where you feel like you wish you were dead I would not do it. I can say this from experience. There have been times where I said to myself that just a few bites of this or that won't completly kill the calorie plan but suffered for hours from the dumping. Every one craves things that we should not eat at one time or another and everyone has eaten them at least once if they say they haven't either that haven't been doing this for that long or they are just lying. Is it worth it to you to be incredibly ill? Is it worth it to you to rish sliding back into the old habits that got you to where you needed the surgery in the first place? Don't let moods, craving, emotions or stress put you back on the path that got you to the point of surgery in the first place. If you need some one to talk to or some support just send me a message through my profile. Everyone needs some support sometimes.

I would say NO. If it's not on the diet your surgeon furnished you should stay away from it, you're setting yourself up to fail!

I use low fat cream cheese and splenda, use plain chocolate graham cracker crumbs sprinkled for a crust, and freeze the cheesecake cut into small portions to serve my craving. I'm glad to be satisfied with just a little bit of something rather than eating the whole cake like before my surgery. It is def. a special occasion food though.

Check out Bariatriceating.com for some really wonderful WLS recipes. Small portions and when you need to satisfy cravings, they are great. Here's an Oreo Cheesecake recipe that I made for the family on Christmas. I had a teeny sliver, but that was all I needed. Check out some of the other cheesecake recipes. The Tiramisu was awesome, but it was a bit more complicated (good for birthdays or special occasions). Oreo Cheesecake Creamy white and packed with crunchy bits of cream-filled wafer cookies this cake will make a huge splash whenever you serve it! Vegetable cooking spray 2 pkgs sugar free Oreos or Murray's sugar free chocolate sandwich cookies, divided 1/4 cup butter, melted Four 8-ounces pkgs reduced-fat cream cheese, softened 1 1/4 cups Splenda Granular 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 3/4 cups sour cream 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream 4 eggs Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray a 9-inch springform pan with the cooking spray. Wrap in aluminum foil so that the butter doesn't seep out and burn in the oven and place on a baking sheet. Set aside. Finely crush 1 1/2 pkgs of the Oreo cookies (or 1 pkg of the Murray's) and place in a medium bowl along with the melted butter. Mix well and press into the bottom and 1 inch up the sides of the prepared pan. Bake for 12-13 minutes, or until crispy to the touch. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. In a large bowl whip the softened cream cheese just until smooth. Beat in the Splenda, vanilla, sour cream, and whipping cream just until blended. One at a time, beat in eggs just until incorporated. Coarsely chop remaining cookies and gently fold into cheese mixture. Pour into cooled crust. Bake for one hour, loosely covering with foil after 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Run a sharp knife around the edge of the cake, but do not remove the sides of the pan. Allow to cool completely. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and chill overnight or at least 5 hours. Remove sides of pan and slice. (Cheesecakes will be creamy, soft for the first few hours, and will become more dense and cakey the longer they are allowed to chill. They really do get better as they sit and rest!) Makes 18 servings. Per Serving: 230 Cal; 6 g Protein; 17 g Tot Fat; 14 g Carb; 0 g Fiber; 0 g Sugar; 219 mg Sodium
