Do you mean all the "rnrrry" things that come in some posts? If so I have been wondering that for a long time myself . Thanks for taking the time to ask. Maybe we will find out.

I mean RNY...this is obviously some kind of surgery other than lapband, people should be more respectful in their typing skills and not use abbreviations, new people do not know what they are talking about...

Nobody is being disrespectful with their typing skills. RNY is the abbreviation for Roux-en-Y. The abbreviation was given by medical professionals not members of OH.com

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is abbreviated as RNY. Duodenal Switch is abbreviated as DS. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy is abbreviates as VSG. Vertical Banded Gastroplasty is abbreviated as VBG. Those are the main ones that come to mind. If you find one in the future that you don't recognize be sure to speak up. Hope this helps!

I don't think no one is being disrespectful. The whole medical field is made up of abbrevations. Can you imagine writing out all the long surgical procedure names. They even have college class for medical terminolgy and how to spell them correctly. When a person decides to have WLS (weight loss surgery) they will find in their research abbreviations all over the place. If you type in the top of the page in the search line and put on RNY it will tell you what it means. If you go into a forum page and at the upper left corner it has surgery types and RNY is right there and you click on and it tells you what it is. Type in DS and it is a douodenal switch. It will tell you what kind of procedure it is. Thank god for abbreviations because I hate to spell out alll those gigiantic long words. I hope this helps you.

In addition to the abbreviations for the various types of weight loss surgery, there is also WLS = Weight Loss Surgery. S/P means "post-surgery." When people here say "my Nut" they mean "my Nutritionist." Those are all I can think of right now.....hope it helps and good question! :O)

You can find some message board lingo here :http://www.obesityhelp.com/content/sitehelp.html#lingo One of the first things I read about when coming to the site was the message board abbreviations...They actually prefer you use them to keep messages short.

I still want an answer to the r/n/n/n/y sort of abbreviations. I can't figure them out for the life of me and it's not mentioned on the logo screen. Thanks.

well i was told by someone that the r\n\r is just a typo for the RNY surgery- but it still doesn't make sense in the posts i have seen-- but that is okay-- i just thought we were missing something that would help us with the abbreviations. i love using the abbrs. as well. I am not the best typist and i know i will make mistakes in typing too. Have a nice Thanksgiving everyone- Lots to be thankful for. cora s
