Question:
healthy snacks
any recommendations on healthy snacks? i eat fruit, have tried dried green peas...but still need a bit more variety for snacks so i'm not so tempted to veer from what's good for me. I"m almost 4 months post RNY. — hatda (posted on May 20, 2008)

Hi, I'm almost three years post op. I like to snack on soybeans, nuts like
cashews, walnuts, almonds, or dried fruit mixes. You can also snack on
those soy crisps which are really good and they all are adding some protein
into your day as well. Hope i've helped! Good luck, Jeannie

Genisoy Soy Crisps, how about a piece of apple with some peanut butter on
it? Half a protein bar (Walmart sells Protein Plus Bars that are low in
sugar and most are pretty good). SF Pudding made with a scoop of protein
powder is also good.

Fage Greek Yogurt (high protein, low fat and low sugar low cals) Add your
own fruit andsweetener. (I use stevia) I am building up an intolerance for
fake sweeteners and sugar alcohols. I can actually tolerate real sugar
better than the fake stuff! UGH!!!!!
Turkey, beef jerky...turkey pepperoni, cottage cheese whipped smooth or
ricotta cheese with a box of SF cheesecake, banana or pistachio flavored
jello pudding! YUMMERS Add some SF whipped topping for more fluff!
Almonds, peanut butter on celery or apples...soy crisps dipped in Fage
greek yogurt (which tastes like sour cream, plain) Fried or microwaved parm
cheese (turns crips in the micro wave) Try microwaved pepperoni too...It
gets really crispy and you blot off the fat with paper towels...Makes a
nice chip for hummus or refried beans...TVP (textured vegetable protein is
little soy crumbly crisps (little flavor) LOTS of protein... tastes great
in yogurt or pudding or sf ice cream...Soften with broth, it makes a nice
chili or ground burger recipe replacement...Take a scoop choco protein
powder and a TPSN peanutnut butter with a little milk (soy or reg) mix well
and roller in fiber one cereal or TVP for a crispy-chocolately- PB ball of
protein and fiber! LF or FF cheese sticks wrapped with lean lunch
meats...Or try a deli pickle wraped with a slice of swiss and ham or any
combo of you fav cheese and meat...Nice carb free snack...I could go on and
on...These are a few of my fav high protein quickie-snacks and hunger
killers.

The best way to snack is to avoid it. Chose a few things if you need
snacks, but most of us don't. The problem with snacking is you won't
always be able to eat so little, and you will eat more, and more and larger
amounts as time goes by. Be careful with your snacking, it can catch up
with you quickly. Patricia P.

Look for snacks with protein... cheese cubes or string cheese (chewed
slowly and thoroughly, of course)... peanut butter on wheat thins/wasa
bread or on fruit (limited amount due to natural sugars in fruit)... A
slice of deli meat with Laughing Cow cheese or low-fat cream cheese rolled
up... yogurt... a snack-sized salad with a protein added.

I enjoy snacking on Turkey Jerky from Costco. It's high in protein &
low in fat. I wouldn't exactly call it snacking, it's one of my
"mini-meals".

I get soynuts. There is 11 grams of protein in 1/4 cup of nuts I think. I
know that they are crunchy and sometimes I just need to crunch. I get them
at Wal Mart in the fruit section of produce.

I too love the turkey jerky from Costco. Also they have a huge bag of mixed
dried fruits and nuts thats great, it has like 6-7 different dried fruits
in it.

I make popsickles out of the sugarless nutrition drink Glucerna. It is a
way to have a treat, and have it be good for you, too. (I LOVE the Butter
Pecan flavor.) It also makes the expensive drinks last a LOT longer. Good
value.
