48 lbs in a year??? You are definately having a problem. You need to go
back to your doctor and ask him what you are doing wrong. High protein is
the key. Listen I am one who never thought I could lose weight. I even
have a disease with my system that makes my weightloss slow and harder than
heck, but I have lost alot of weight in a little over a year. I am
struggling to get off 70 more lbs, but I would be upset too if I only lost
48 lbs. You are going to need some guidance it sounds like to me. There
is something wrong as to why you are not losing.

Yvette: I'm so sorry to hear about your situation with your RNY. Have you
talked to your surgeon about this? It just doesn't seem right....if you're
doing everything you're supposed to be doing then that means you're
consuming less than 1000 calories a day AND working out to burn off a good
part of that. I mean....anybody should be able to lose weight pretty
quickly on that kind of a diet....RNY or not.
I say you need to talk to a doctor...see if there is some kind of thyroid
problem.
Good luck, and 49 lbs. lost is still weight lost....I know, I know, that's
not why we do this....but it's still better than not.
Try to stay positive!

Can ya give more information? This is serious...share what your eating and
drinking? Do you use the fitday.com to track you weight, food and
inches....it charts all your info so you can see whats goin on. I totally
can understand your frustration, I was on a stall or no loss for 18 days,
and pulled up my stuff and gave to my nutritionist.....she found I wasnt
doin everything i was suppose to, I needed to bump up my protein because of
my workout schedule, (like yours) and i wasnt really gettin enough fluids
in either....i made the changes she suggested and have dropped 4 lbs this
week. But a whole year honey........please get your documented
information to your nutritionist as well as speaking with your doctor is my
opinion..... Please let us know how things turn out. This is all a
learning process for all of us. Thanks for sharing today. I love you
guys!!!!

My heart goes out to you! During my first year with RNY I only lost 50-60.
I hit a plateau after 9 months; I've struggled as well. I wish i had
researched the different types of wls before I went through with RNY
however I do not regret it. I have learned what it is to have true mental
health and emotional health. Yes, check with your surgeon, nutritionist,
and PCP. I had a problem with labs and I had to address those issues. I had
to take into consideration my other health conditions. It is frustrating
when you are doing all you can and moving, moving, moving...Please contact
the specialist I mentioned and don't be so hard on yourself. Contact a
support group in your area--it can't hurt. Take one step at a time but
don't blame yourself just be proactive! Let me know if I can help in
anyway.

Call your Dr. ASAP. That is just not right. I had my RNY 4 1/2 years ago
and I lost 100 pounds in the first 7 months. If your Dr is not of help, go
see another one. Best of luck to you.

There is basically nothing on your bio section, so I don't know what was
your intitial weight. You have to be failing to do something properly. You
need to watch sugar intake, carb intake in all foods, drink plenty of
water, and exercise. You say your doing those things, but my guess you're
continueing to eat or drink something that you shouldn't. I had RNY in
May, 2006, and I've lost about 140 pounds. My only exercise is walking
around the block--1 1/4 miles once or twice daily. I try to watch what I
eat, but I do fudge once in a while. Yet, I still managed to loose the
weight. You may need to keep a complete food journal of the foods you eat
and the liquids you drink. Be accurate, and show this to your nutritionist
at your surgeon's office. Attend support group meetings, and they may be
able to help you spot your problem. The vast majority of people have lost
48 pounds or more in the first 6 months, and then slowly lost more
weight--which was my case. I went "off the wagon" and ate and
drank off protocol, and found my weight went up 20 pounds between 7 and 10
months. I got back on the program, and lost the 20 pounds I gained, and yet
lost almost another 20. The surgery is only a tool, you still have to work
at it yourself with diet, exercise, etc.

Something is wrong. I'm six months post RNY and just hit the 100 lb lost
mark. I would talk to the Doc.

Yvette,
First I want to give you kudo's for caring enough about yourself to have
the surgery and losing 48lbs! Just because you aren't losing lbs doesn't
mean that you arent' losing fat...have you measured yourself, or are your
clothes sizes changing? Or it may be like me, if I don't eat enough (yeah
who ever thought that would be a problem...lol) then I tend to gain a few
pounds, and then when I pick up my eating alittle I lose it again. You
need to check and see if you are getting enough food in. I drink a protein
shake a day (sometimes 2) on top of whatever food I'm consuming just to try
and ensure I am getting enough protein. I hope everything goes well for
you. Keep us posted. I am here if you need me.

Hey hon, some of the posters to this have been a little harsh. Ok here's
the deal. You might need a revision. Talk to your surgeon. Document the
process and keeping seeing your surgeon or get other opinions until they
get this figured out. That small of a weightloss with RNY, with your
activity level?? Something IS NOT right as you say. Keep on the MD's until
you figure it out. In the meantime talk to your Nutriotionist, take your
supplements, and get that protein in. ;o)

Please see your bariatric surgeon and nutritionist right away about this.
They will probably run bloodwork to see what's going on. You didn't
mention anything about protein and vitamins, so I hope you are being
instructed to consume the 60-70 grams protein needed every day, and taking
your multivitamins, calcium, and getting regular follow-ups with your
surgeon. Some people need b12 and iron and vitamin D supplements. If you
are not getting answers from your current bariatric progam, I think it
would be a good idea to consider switching to another one for your
continued follow-up. Don't panic. If you ask for help you will receive
it. Take care.

Get back to your Doctor right away. Maybe your pouch is too big, or it has
been streched. I can not hold but about 2 to 3 oz of food at a time, so
weight lose only stalls on me for two weeks and then I start to loose
again. Regardless, your Doctor needs to check you out and find out what is
happening. He has too many good post not to care, so call him for an
appointment in the morning, first thing.

If you can get back on track, great. If you are considering a revision,
check out the duodenal switch, a more profound weight loss and better
chance of keeping it off, eat more normally, no dumping, no stomal
problems. Check out duodenalslwitch.com or the DS forum here on OH. RnY
and the lapband are NOT the only two weight loss surgeries. Duodenal is
the one to check out. Good luck.
