Question:
Does satiety improve once you're eating pureed "real" food.
I'm 8 days post-op and sad to say I'm already so sick of the liquids. I long for actual food and as of yet I don't feel much satiety at all from protein drinks. I feel hungry often which I assume is from the rapid transit through the new pouch (that is, nothing stays in there for long). I'm assuming that once I have some substance (pureed chili, pureed veggies, pureed meat, etc.) I will have more of the "full" satisfied feeling after I eat. Can anyone give me a vision of things to come? To date I have lost 20# since surgery, but I'm sure about 5#was water from all the IV fluid they gave me. — loveathome3 (posted on January 11, 2008)

Been there done that. It will happen give it time. This is the time our
stomach's are healing and this is how we are training our stomach's to
actually feel the fullness. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to
FEEL the fullness, so beware! Be careful and stay on path! You will love
yourself for it and be proud of your accomplishment! Keep doing what your
nutritionist/surgeon says and all will be good. I am 9 months out and have
NO problem feeling full. I still laugh when I realize my eyes are bigger
than my stomach or the rare occasions when I go out to eat and they bring
me my "meal" (can you say pigs trough!) American serving sizes
have gotten so out of hand it's a reality slap in the face! I often giggle
and say "I know I'm going to need a container because I will have
extra food!" I get this funny look because I am still overweight.
(369 lbs). Anyway, hang in there it does get better! Good luck, God bless
and welcome to the losing side! Congrats on the weight loss!

Irene I'm one of the one's that did not get hungry after surgery. I was on
clear liquids for 10 days which I had cranberry juice and s/f popsicles for
10 straight day and I stayed full. Or at least I psyched my self to
believe I was. I do recall however my stomach was constantly growling.
Hand on in there girlfriend and take it really slow. I am 3 months post op
today and have not had any fills and have lost 42lbs. Its a GREAT feeling

I just had my surgery (lapband) on 1/9/08. I hear you. Those protein
drinks just aren't doing it for me either. My stomach is making lots of
noise. Hang in there it's all we can do.

You could be experiencung "head hunger", thinking about food will
do that to you along with cravings. Munch on ice chips.

You have to find new things to do with your brain, mouth and hands. That is
usually the key.

It did seem to help me. I am 17 days post op and I eat pureed foods and
get full and seem to say full for a long while. Just eat high protein food
this way you will not have to have as many of those dreaded protein
drinks...good luck1

I can honestly say say I just started my pureed food this Wednesday and I
can't tell what a piece of heaven that was. I am not a big fan of chicken
but by golly it tasted so darn good purred. I felt like if I had to eat
another scrambled egg I would just well you get the picture. I don't do
that for breakfast. I still do the carnantion sugar instant drink for
breakfast due to the fact that I can not tolerat the scrambled egg anymore.
Maybe when I am aloud toast I will be able to tolerate the egg fried with
pam. I still can't eat the pureed veggies because I can't finish all of my
1/4 cup of pureed meat yet. I did take a little taste of my pureed carrots
though and they were delicious. But I have to stick with my protein first.
My first post op visit was on Monday Jan 7 my total loss was 18 # surgery
was 12/21/07. You are doing wonderful it won't be long before you will get
a taste of real food again.

You're right on the mark..... liquids flow right thru. You'll feel fuller
with pureed and even more full with solids.
Congrats on the 20# down.
