Question:
Menstral cycle before surgery

I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on Wednesday 1/10/07. I started my menstral cycle yesterday will they still do the surgery? Also, what did you all do to get rid of the nerves before your date I can't sleep. Kelly P    — Klassy -N- Sassy (posted on January 8, 2007)

I had my period during the surgery and my doctor didn't cancel my surgery. Just surround yourself with people that you love and think about good things to follow after the surgery. Good Luck and Best of Wishes

They will not cancel your surgery since you will not be operated on "down there", lol. Probably best to put a fresh tampon on right before surgery. Since the surgery takes only about 1 1/2 hours you should not have a problem. Also, it is perfectly normal to be nervous and not sleep before surgery but there is really nothing you can do except to focus on positive things. I was super nervous and felt silly when I woke up in the RR and I was fine!

I am a month post op today, and I so remember the anxiety. It is no big deal. The pain was not bad, miminal for me. Try and relax and think about what you will be doing afterwards, the new you, and let that excitement over-ride what is alot of needless worrying. Just be positive.

Hi, I started the morning of my surgery (2 weeks early..) just a quick word of advice, bring pads with you and not tampons, if you are having open rny it is really hard to bendover and remove the tampons, so pads are best.. I had a very embarassing thing happen where the nurse actually had to remove the tampon for me, because I couldnt.. I thought I would just die.. but she was really nice about it.. Dont be nervous you'll do just great!! Just think of all of the positive things that will come from the surgery for you and that should help with the anxiety a bit!!! Best wishes, April

I was told to wear a pad because they have to put a cathetar in and will have to remove the tampon. Luckily for me I stopped before my surgery...As embarrassing as it might be you should call the doctors office and ask if you're not sure what to do.

Kelly your surgery is tomorrow and you may not get this in time, but when I cannot sleep I ready my Bible and pray. I really try and listen to what God is saying in His Word, and pray about those things that are keeping me up and my family and others. Anytime I go into surgery I take the time to look over my life and be sure I have forgiven those who have hurt me if I have not already done that, I take the time to be sure my children and my family know that I love them no matter what, and be sure my plate is clean with God in case He is the one I end up seeing on my surgery date. When these things are done in my life, then I am able to sleep in peace. His Word says in Psalms 4:8 "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety." God alone makes me dwell in safety. I hope it is the same for you. Take care and best to you. Patricia P

I started the day before surgery. I NEVER use pads but was told I had to because the nurse said that it was possible for a tampon to be forgotten. Unfortunately, the operating room nurses were unable to get the mesh panties on me all the way because of my size so the pad was closer to my knees. This left me in a huge mess. As soon as I was up after surgery, I was able to get cleaned up and use a tampon. It won't be a big deal. I turned my nervousness into excitement to get me through before surgery. Best of luck and I know God will walk with you through this experience.
