Question:
HAD MY GALLBLADDER REMOVED
IN 1985 READ A QUESTION RE SLOW WEIGHT LOSS BECAUSE OF THE GALLBLADDER BEING REMOVED IS THIS JUST A FREAK THING OR DOES ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE WITH NO GALLBLADDER HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SLOW WEIGHT LOSS? — donna m (posted on December 10, 2005)

Hi Donna, I also had my gall bladder out and lose somewhat slowly. I had
my surgery on 3/22/05 and have lost 56 lbs. I am attributing the slow
weight loss to my age, as I'm 64. It would be nice to have something else
to blame it on as I am very young for my age. Happy holidays, Carol

Hello Donna,
I had my gallbladder removed January 2005, I find that it is not extremely
hard to lose weight; however it is impossible to keep it off. I will lose
then for no appearant reason gain it right back. I do not know if this is
associated to my gallbladder removal or not. I do know that it is very
frustrating, for i start gaining for no apperant reason at all.
Good Luck with you,
Shawanda

My gallbladder was already out before surgery. I was losing fine but having
trouble now. Very frustrating.

Hi Donna,
I had my GB out in 1982. I have always had trouble losing weight since. I
had not ever thought about it , but the SB does aid in emulsifying
fats...which without it I imagine dietary needs leaning towards low fat in
order to maintain a healthy weight (something i had not done all that well
). xxx ALLY

I had my RNY in November 2003 and had no problems losing although it was
slower than I wanted but it kept coming off. In June 2004 I had to have my
gallbladder removed because of stones and I still continued to lose just
like before I had my gallbladder removed. I started at 244 lbs and at about
20 months post op I was down to 111 lbs. I am maintaining now and allow
myslef to go up as high as 5-7 pounds more than 111 lbs without freaking
out. I don't feel like my gallbladder had anything to do with how I lost
weight or even now how I am maintaining, but each person is different. I am
so happy with my results. I do work to make sure I never hit 120 lbs. I am
only 5'2 so I am at a good weight for me. I hit my surgeon's goal and my
own and I could not be happier. It just takes time and learning how to eat
and what NOT to eat and you will do fine.

I also had my gallbladder removed in 2003, I have not been loosing the
weight as fast as I thought I would have. Maybe I am wanting it to come too
fast. The 14th of Dec. will make it a month since I have had the surgery
and so far I have only shed about 20 pounds. This just sucks, sometimes I
think I made a wrong choice.

Donna,
I had my gallbladder removed 15 years prior to my RNY, and it has had no
negative affects on my weight loss. I am exactly one year out, and I have
lost 170 lbs., which makes me only 7 lbs. away from my goal...in only one
year!!! Just remember, we are not carbon copies of each other, so everyone
loses weight at different rates, and those rates are determined by many
things...genes, exercise, food choices, amount of consumption, underlying
physiological and psychological issues, and how well you are adhering to
your commitment to a new lifestyle change. Good luck, and keep trying.
Never give up!!!!! Robin
