This works for me you might want to try it. 1 cup
of fat free milk
1 pack of sugar free carnation instant breakfast
1/3 cup of non-fat powered milk
add any flavor of Sugar/fat free instant pudding when adding the instant
pudding add as little or alot as you want the more you add the thicker it
is. I would make it thinck if I wanted to eat it with a spoon or I added a
little if I wanted a drinkable shake I bought a magie bullet mixer and it
was wonderfull becuase it came with lids if you could not drink it all.~it
is the best good luck

Try the Isopure Zero Carb Protein drinks. I like Grape Frost, Apple Melon
and Alpine Punch -- they contain 40 grams of protein. You can find these
at GNC as well as the Vitamin Shoppe. Be careful because they also make
one that has carbs. I must say it is an aquired taste -- mix it with half
a bottle of water and you will get to the point where you will drink it
straight. My hair dresser loves it because my hair is healthy and boy has
it grown.

Check with Vitalady and pick out some single serving samples of flavors you
think you might like. You need protein badly in these early months after
surgery, and you can't get enough from foods. Until you can eat more solid
foods higher in protein, you'll have to resign yourself to protein
supplements. You should have understood this prior to surgery. It's very
important to you long range health. Not enough protein while you lose a lot
of wt will lead to muscle mass loss, which you don't want. DAVE

64oz of milk a day would probably be wayyyyy too hard on your system,
especially this soon after surgery! I have tried a number of protein drinks
and didn't care for them ... Last week I discovered Designer Whey chocolate
protein powder, which I mix with almond milk ... It's SO GOOD! The canister
says to mix a scoop of protein powder with three ounces of water, but I mix
it with four ounces of the almond milk instead - it's a little too thick if
I just use the three ounces. I usually drink an eight-ounce shake every
morning, which gives me 36g of protein to start my day. So far it's working
really well for me. Good luck finding something that you can tolerate ... I
know it's not easy and it's not cheap!

Hi Michelle! I used the Matrix Protein drinks that you can buy on
Vitacost.com. I mixed them with skim milk or 1% milk and all together with
the milk it came to about 30 grams of protein. The drinks come in Orange,
Chocolate and Vanilla and are really good. Also, I got the Vanilla Chai
drink from Bolthouse Farms that has no sugar added and is all natural and
it is so delicious. It has about 19 grams of protein per serving. You can
buy it at Kroger or Walm-mart stores. I hope that helps! Good luck on
everything!

Hi Michelle. I don't like anything!!! I am so picky and gag easily but have
found Slimfast High protein chocolate pretty good. 13g of sugar 15g of
protein and it is made with skim milk. It works for me!! I checked with doc
says sugar ok because it mostly comes from the milk. Good luck

The Isopure someone mentioned is good...the Green apple is my favorite.
I'd suggest going to the vitalady someone else mentioned and to
bariatriceating.com and unjury and get sample packs of various types of
protein drinks and try them til you find some you can tolerate. I am 2
years post op and I STILL can't STAND the ones that are chocolate (except
Nectar...it's OK...not fantastic but OK), vanilla...anything thick. The
only ones I can drink are the isopure (pre-mixed), some whey ones from
bariatriceating (can't think of the name right now...and they're under my
desk at work), and most of the 'Nectar' brand...I think there's also
another brand similar to Nectar that you might tolerate. Some of the
drinks (chocolate/vanilla) are a little thick and to me have a bad after
taste. The nectar and a few others are more like juice...and you don't
have to drink quite as much in volume to get the same amount of protein as
the mixes for the chocolate vanilla. Some of them are only an 4-6-8 oz
serving.
Please don't write off all protein drinks as nasty and thus don't drink any
of them. Keep trying them (with the samples) until you find what you like
before you order a huge container. Even if you find the ones you like
online, then you can shop around locally at the health food stores and see
if they are cheaper.
A lot of people also drink the protein 'bullets,' which are like jello that
you mixed up and didn't let 'set.' I can drink them...barely. It's a
texture thing. I have found I am extremely sensitive to the texture of
some things now and will gag if I try to eat/drink something that the
'texture alone' doesn't agree with me.
Regarding the milk....Yes milk is good for you and has protein in it, but I
think the lactose in it would make you sick if you tried to drink 8 glasses
of it a day. Not to mention it's not really portable and you can't drag a
fridge around with you to keep it handy and fresh. : )
Keep experimenting. I have ordered (but not received) a sample of the
unjury chicken soup protein drink. I have heard it's good...and it's the
only 'protein drink' I've heard of that isn't 'sweet' tasting. There's a
whole market out there for non-sweet protein drinks and things when some
marketing genious catches on to it!
Hang in there, keep drinking the drinks (even when you have to plug your
nose to drink them) and remind yourself why you're doing it. The liquids
aren't forever and as you progress and are able to expand your list of
options, you won't have to rely quite so much on them.
Good luck.

I was just like you ...untill I came accross ACHIEVONE protein drinks. They
are ready to drink, 9.5 oz,3 gms sugar, 5 grms carbs and 20 grams of
protein. If you like iced coffe ype drinks give this a try. I look forward
to them. I am 21 months post op and can get all of my protein needs from
food - brut, I choose to include this in my diet because , i love them, its
like a treat. Keep looking and trying until you find one you LOVE! * 1%
milk has a lot of carbs and sugar - I'd try to look for another
alternative.

I'm 2 1/2 months out and still some of them make me gag and I throw them
down the sink. Don't smell them when you go to take a drink--that smell
just about does me in. Sugar free coffee syrups help. I use the Vanilla
from Starbucks so often that I keep it on the counter. I also add SF syrups
to my plain, Greek yogurt and actually like it better than the Lite &
Fit and it has a lot more protein. I also mix some powders. One of my
favorites is 1/2 Isopure Vanilla and 1/2 Nectar Roadside Lemonade--with 2
pumps of SF Vanilla syrup. Try 1/2 water and 1/2 milk to mix the
proteins--that seemed to help a little. I just bought some flavorless
powder yesterday to mix and try with some pudding or oatmeal. I hope it
works.
Good luck.

Hi! I , too, had a hard time with protein shakes. Actually I had a problem
with all the artificailly sweetened stuff.Made me gag. Then I ordered
Unjury...from unjury, com. I get the unflavored and mis with skim milk or
mix with fruit 2 o-which I recently discovered I can tolerate. Unjury also
has a chicken broth flavor protein powder that I like to mix with swanson
chicken broth 8 0z..each serving of the unjury has approx. 20 grams of
protein. I consume one in the am and one at night. Remeber that skim milk
has 12 grams of sugar per 8 ounces. Most of us are trying to keep our grams
of sugar low or dumping may occur. Hope this info is helpful! hugs, Kim

Milk and cheese is okay, but that much? I would be afraid you might build
up an allergy to it...or become lactose intollerant or just have chronic
diarreah from all that milk...Isopure low carb drinks were all I could
tollerate back then...and I also used Cheramino once I began eating more.
have you tried other protein sources, like soy-whey blends or egg protein?
I finally found EAS soy-whey protein at Costco...after 5 years of looking
for a PROTEIN POWDER I LIKE...I did not drink protein powder all those
years...The Isopure got to be too expensive at nearly $4.00 a bottle. But
at first...It was important enough to get that much protein and it was my
food for the day for the most part so you do what you have to do! It's
only a short time before you can EAT your protein and not worry anymore...I
still do 1 protein supp daily because I can't eat all my protein and I aim
for 100 gs a day at almost 5 years out...So...I do 31-32 g's in a protein
drink daily...The rest gladly eat from natural food!

I like the ISOPURE too. Two of them in one day would meet your protein
needs. Probable a good idea to call your Nut, or surgeon

This is really a question for your doctor/nutritionist/surgeon... how many
calories are you supposed to be consuming each day? How much
fat/sugar/carbs?
One cup of 1% milk has 102 calories, 8 grams of protein, 2.6 grams of fat,
and 11.7 grams of sugar. Eight glasses of milk a day would give you 816
calories, 64 grams of protein, 20.8 grams of fat, and 94 grams of sugar
(for comparison, a king size snickers has 56 grams of sugar). It would
give you the protein you need, but it'll also give you a large amount of
calories, fat, cholesterol, and sugar. If you are drinking all this milk
during the time you are restricted to full liquids, it'd probably be ok,
but over the longterm, this may not be a wise choice. As I said earlier,
this is really something to discuss at your check up.
As far as protein powders/drinks go, I am in the same boat as you... I
just cannot tolerate them. After lots of looking, I have found a couple
things: There are many different types of protein supplements--you might
want to buy a couple sampler packs. You get a serving or two of several
flavors/brands to try and if you don't like it, its not a big waste. Also,
not all protein supplements require drinking. I know that there is a
company that makes a chicken broth protein powder and a couple different
brands of high protein puddings. You can also buy unflavored protein
powder and add it to soups, smoothies, baked goods, etc. so that you aren't
drinking it plain.
No matter how much I dilute it, I just can't manage the soy protein
powder... I'm not fond of whey based powders either. The best supplement
for me is egg whites. You can buy egg white powder (make sure its not
meringue powder as that has sugar) or separate them yourself and toss the
yolks. One egg white has 16 calories, 3.6g of protein, and less than 1/2 a
gram of fat and sugar. One tablespoon of egg white powder has 12g of
protein, 0.6g of sugar/carbs, and less than 1/2 gram of fat. Eggs and egg
powder aren't cheap, but I don't think they would cost anymore than you'd
be spending if you were drinking 8 glasses of milk a day (8 glasses of milk
per day = 1/2 gallon of milk per day).
Because of the sugar, I no longer drink regular milk. I drink Calorie
Countdown Dairy Beverage which is basically milk without sugar... they
have a fat free and a 2% "milk" both with 3g of sugar/carbs and
8g of protein per cup.
Whew! Well, I didn't mean to write you a book. Hope its helpful. Good
luck.

GNC has protein powder that you can add to your drinks, food or whatever
you eat and cook that doesnt have any taste and does not change the
consistency of the food. Its called "ON" Its a wey protein,
instantized which is important. I cant drink those nasty protein shakes
either. Also, my doctor has me on carnation instant breakfast( no sugar
added) and 2 percent milk, which I am sure you can use fat free or low fat
also..you can drink it alone or add the protein powder i mentioned. This
protein powder is only 17grams per scoop but it is totally tasteless which
is wonderful . Also, ther is a website on the can. rippedacademy.com.
You can probably go here and find it too. Make sure it does not have flavor
if you want to add it to everything , especially if you dont like protein
shakes. Good luck

I have used UNJURY, I liked all of them except for the chicken soup (too
salty). I now use EAS purchased at COSTCO, It is a bit chalky, so I add
Splenda to it, and it taste great that way. I still use Unjury Unflavored.
Good Luck

I am having my surgery next week. I experimented with the different
protien shakes my doc recommended and found one I really like and have
actually already lost 40 pounds on by just drinking them during the day and
having a low-carb meal in the evening. It is Atkins
Advantage shakes and I have to tell you that for me they are perfect! I
have done some studying on this subject, and I have found out that the body
is only able to absorb 15 grams of protien at one time. Atkins Advantage
Shakes has 15 grams of protien. My doc wants me to have a minimum of 60
grams of protien daily. I will have to try and get down four 11 oz shakes
a day, plus as much water, preferably between 60 and 80 oz of water a day.
He told me at first I won't be able to get it all down, but that the
priority at first will be the protien. Try them out. I am very pleased
with them, even more so since they just recently stopped packaging them in
a can and switched to a carton container. The flavor is ever better! I
actually look forward to them! I am even taking some to the hospital with
me!

Give medifast.com a try. They have lots of different foods that are high
in protien low in carbs and fat. A little pricey, but most of their stuff
tastes good, love their soups and their chili (although you probably
couldn't tolerate those for another couple of weeks.) But their shakes are
great love the chocolate with a little SF rasberry syrup added, and the hot
chocolate and chai are pretty good as well if you need something warm, oh
and the tomatoe soup (high protein) is delicious and would work at this
point. If you ate 5 medifast meals you would be right around 60 gm of
protein and 500 calories (I really like their ready to eat chocolate shake
it is creamy and 11 gr of protein, 3 gr fiber and 90 cals)
