Question:
For those of you who have had Lapband, What was your starting weight and how much did
you lose? I am 284. I already had rny done 6 years ago. I had a starting weight of 445 and I am only done to 284. I am scheduled for lapband on Feb 11. Thanks — tylerswife (posted on January 29, 2008)

You should be thrilled with the amount of weight you have lost congrats!
Good luck with the other surgery. I had RNY 4 1/2 years ago.

RNY surgery is approved by my insurance company, and lap band is not. One
of the reasons is that there is a higher "success rate" with RNY
than lap band. It's difficult to say how much weight you'll loose due to
the previous surgery you've already had. Most people on this site have
either had the RNY or the lap band. I think your post is the first
question I've seen in regards to having both surgeries.

We hear alot about how lapband isn't as quick as other forms of bariatric
surgery however the weight lost does not come back . My weight loss
journey with lapband is slow but it depends on how many fills it takes to
get to the proper level. Now that I've had 4 fills I'm looseing weight
more consistantly. I really don't care how long it takes as long as it is
gone for good. I know other people in my area who took two years to loose
as much as I want to and they have not gained back an once. Good luck with
your surgery.

why would you have the lap band if you already had rny??? I dont
understand? You must have not used your tool correctly if you have to have
a lap band now. Im confused

I had Lap Band Surgery in Nov 2005. I was 248 and I now weigh 157. I have
stayed within 5 lbs of this weight for 15 months

RNY is the most sucessful, but since you stopped short, you might consider
having it redone, as today they build a smaller pouch that does not strech
as much. Also the old proceedure stapled the stomach to make the pouch and
today they disconect the stomach. You may have opened into the stomach and
that is why your weight loss stopped short. I would like at redoing the
RNY.

I had the lap band procedure and i started at 305 and i'm down to 214. It's
a slow process but we will get to where we want to get in our weight.
