Question:
3 meals a day or 6?
Hi Folks, My husband and I are having gurgery on the last week of November, Praise the LORD! Now he believes the with the lap-band you need to eat 6 meals a day and I believe it is 3 meals a day, or at least when your hungry. I would like to hear your opinions, I've got 1 week of laundry riding on this one :o) Thanks!!! ~Nancy — MySonsMama (posted on November 16, 2007)

Well Nancy, start sorting the laundry, your husband is right. My doctor's
program says you eat six 4 ounce high protein meals a day.

Your both right or wrong. 3meals a day plus two snacks. Remember, its just
a tool....Blah,Blah,Blah.
Good luck on your journey.

I just looked in my paperwork from my WLS orientation (I chose RNY...having
it Dec. 12) and it is 6. Have fun with the laundry!

My surgeon also says 3 meals and 3 snacks - I'm supposed to be eating about
every 3 hours to make sure I'm getting enough nutrients and not be relying
on just supplements.

Well, Nancy, I just had lapband surgery on Tuesday, 11/13, and my diet
program calls for 3 meals a day (about 4 ounces each) and 3 protein drinks
in between. Does that count for 3 meals or 6? I don't know, but I do know
that I still can't get it all in what with spacing out liquids and trying
to get those in as well. You'll feel like all you do is eat or drink and
you'll get sick of it!

I've read so much conficting information on this one I have no idea the
answer. I was told 6 small meals (some of them just snacks), but I had RNY,
so I don't know if that applies to LAP-BAND. I would confirm this with your
surgeon. But on the laundry...... I think you should "split" the
duties!
Great question!

Hi Nancy, you should ask your surgeon what s/he wants you to do. Different
surgeons have different post-surgical programs. You want to adhere to your
surgeon's plan. Also, what and how you eat varies based on how far out you
are from the surgery. Take care and good luck! Vicki

The best answer will come from your surgeon everyone is different. My
surgeon says 3 meals a day and in between only liquids, so there you have
it, confusing huh, smile. I had RNY surgery back on Oct. 31st and the 3
meals are working for me, not hungry at all.

Nancy,
I had my lapband on Oct 11th. the first 10 days after surger was clear
liquids, like s/f popsicles, cranberry juice, chicken broth, crystal light
etc. Only liquids for 10 days. The 2nd phase was 3 protein drinks a day
for 5 days. Only 3 and water and crystal light in between. The next 4
weeks was called full liquids. 4oz only of applesauce, yougart, cream
soups, grits, cream of wheats (no oatmeal) and juices that contain only
5grams of sugar in between. You can at this stage replace a meal with a
protein drink and you should. You are Never suppose to snack inbetween
meals. I have lost 28lbs since Oct 11th by following my dr's orders. On
Nov 23rd and can began to have soft foods like eggs, deli lunch meat,
talapia, orange roughy etc. Hope this helps

My doctor said absouletly no more than three meals a day and try to break
the protein up to three times a day to make it easier and lots and lots and
lots of water :) good luck who ever ends up with the laundry lol

The most important thing is to listen to your doctor. He/she is the one
that will have your answer. Knowing that all doctors are different even
with the same surgery is interesting but you should only listen to YOUR
doctor. Take care and God bless.

I wrote the booklet my doc offers, and it's 5-6 mini meals, but that is
meals of 1-2 oz only. Meal time is over in 15 minutes, so does not mean
waiting til the full feeling passes and eating more. When you're full the
first time, you're done.
