Question:
Weight Loss at 9+ Months Post-Op
I had RNY on February 23, 2007. I am 5'2" and have lost 118 pounds in the last 9+months, down from 278 at 160. I feel great - no comlications so far! Does anyone have insight into typical weight loss on a monthly basis at this point? I have slowed down a LOT, though I still have 40+ pounds to go. I am interested in your experience, advice and encouragement. Thanks! — rebirth2007 (posted on November 12, 2007)

That is wonderful! The rest will come. Just give it time. Try not to
focus on the number.

I HAD SURGERY EXACTLY 1 YEAR AGO AND HAVE LOST 105 LBS.
I HAVE BEEN AT THE SAME WEIGHT NOW FOR 2 MONTHS. ASK
YOUR SURGEON ABOUT SEEING A NUTRITIONIST. THEY CAN
HELP YOU GET THROUGH A PLATEAU OR ADJUST YOUR DIET.
ALSO TRY AND BOOST YOUR EXERCISE. GOOD LUCK AND
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS THUS FAR.

Wowie, you are doing great. After the initial large weight loss, i started
losing 10-12# per month. had to exercise a little more (but it wont hurt
after losing 118#), and stay away from carbs as much as possible. my dr
said "on occasion" i can have carbs. (well, i can find occasions
all right). Also, you only have 40# left, and just like normal people, the
last pounds will be a little tougher than the first to lose. So you keep
going until you are at your goal. you are doing wonderful so far.

Just remember the heavier you are the quicker you will lose weight. 118 is
an awsome accomplishment so be proud. Everything I have heard was your last
30-40 is a fight. I continued to lose but did it on a much slower basis. At
6 months I was down 125lbs. Read my profile. I talk about it alot.
Happy Weight Loss! Congrats!

You don't give your name, so I don't know who I am talking to, or what sex
you are, but here goes the answer. Your weight loss has been tremendous,
and you are doing very well. As you lose weight, it becomes more difficult
to take those last pounds off. The best thing you can do is be sure you
are drinking enough water, be sure you are getting a good workout daily in
exercise. Good cardio, and at this level, you should be lifting some small
weights for arms and legs and torso development, as well as watching you
calories. These three things, being faithful to them will help you in the
end. It may take more time, but just be faithful and consistent, and it
will come off. Don't let go of any of the three areas, water, exercise,
protein (or diet). Be faithful to your body, and your body will have the
best results. Also keep in mind that your final weight may be more than
you think. I weigh about 136 right now, but I think if I had all the skin
removed that is excess, I would weigh about 115 pounds, so I have to adjust
my thinking about what my final number is. I wear a size 4/6, so I am
small, yet weigh 136, which should be about a size 10 for me. The brain is
a tricky thing. Be sure you have pictures to show your success and be
happy about how far you have come. If you get discouraged about not
getting where you think you should be, then you can end up emotionally
eating and destroying all your good work. You have done well, just keep
steady. The turtle won the race, slow but sure. Take care. Patricia P.

Wow you are doing great. We had surgery the same week. I'm down to 199
from 286 and the weight loss has slowed down; however, I expected it to and
therefore I'm not really that concerned about how fast or how slow its
coming off. I'm just glad I'm smaller today then I was 9 months ago and a
lot healthier as well. My current goal right now is to hit the 100 mark
loss by the end of the year. Don't worry about it, keep doing what you're
doing and those 40 pounds will drop quicker than you expect.
Looks like you have lost on average 13 lbs a month and that is great!

I had surgery on 2/15 of this year - a week or two before you. I was 286
and now down to 161. I am 5'8" and my goal was 180. So obviously, I
made goal and things are great (at my 6 month anniverary). Now...I try to
eat to maintain and some days it works, some days it doesn't. I am
fluctuating 3-5 lbs -on a plateau. I am OK with it though. I don't want to
lose much more weight if any. But I am going along for the ride. I am
seeing my NUT regularly and my blood work, too. All is A OK. I would
suggest getting backt to basics - try the liquid diet to jump start and try
different sorts of actvitiy. Good luck. Stay in touch.
