HI, I went in for my initial consult in August 2005, and they were ready to
schedule me for September surgery.. but I wasnt ready, so I had surgery on
11/1/05. It gave me time to get things situated at home and work before my
big day!! It went very quick. I had all of my paperwork together and the
insurance company was quick to approve me. Good luck!! April

I attended an informational seminar on Jan 22nd, had my first doctor visit
on Feb 23rd, submitted paperwork on Apr 16th and got approved today (Apr
24th), just a little over 3 months! BCBS OR is my insurance co. and I think
they are great!

Hi Donna, and thanks for asking. I am sure you know that it depends on
where you are seeing your surgeon and their load. Every office is gonna be
very different. When I had surgery 3 + years ago, I had to wait about 9
months to just see the surgeon, then 6 weeks for the approval (got it in
about 3 though!), and then it was another 6 weeks for a date. So, from
appt to date was about 3 months with approval and date scheduling. We
have, in our community since gained about 3 bypass surgeons, so the wait is
much less now, but I am glad for the long wait, I did a whole lot of
reading and research and prepared for surgery in ways I would not have been
able to if it were quicker. Use your time wisely, no matter how long it
is. When we work hard for something, we appreciate is so much the more.
Take care, Patricia P.

I went to my first visit with my doctor Aug 2006 and I had my surgery Jan
16, 2007. I did not had to do any weight program for six months because I
already had doctor files where I did a diet program for six months. Good
luck.

I also wanted to tell you that my doctor was ready to schedule surgery in
Nov 2006 but I wanted to wait to the first of the year. End up that was for
the best because my dad passed away Nov 6 and there could be no way I could
go through surgery then and then put more stress on my family.

I went to a NWWLS Lap-Band seminar 4/17/07, I have my appointments with the
nurse, py, & surgeon 5/21/07 & 5/24/07, then I was told they will
be able to get me in within a few weeks....I'm planning to have it done
before the end of June. I'm self pay, so no extra time needed for
insurance "stuff"

My wait was just about 6 mos from the time of the inital surgical
consultation. Like Patricia P said, it will depend upon the workload of
the surgeon, what the availability of the hospital's surgical suite is,
etc. Some physicians have privilegees at more than one hospital, so
sometimes that can either shorten or lenthen your weight depending upon how
many times a week the surgeon does surgery. It depends upon how many tests
that you are going to require preop and how quickly you can get in to those
doctors, have the tests and get the results. It depends upon your
particular surgeon's requirements as far as dieting is. Some will take
your word for the past experiences, some will require you to start another
time frame for the dieting. My surgeon took my word for it, but also
required me to lose approx 10% of my weight. I didn't lose the whole 30#,
but I was still down prior to surgery. It has been 6 mos and have lost
approx 85lbs. Feel great. looking better. good luck to you
