Question:
One A Day Maximum Vitamins
Hi! I plan on calling the nutritionist tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone out there has had any luck/heard of these vitamins. I am 2 1/2 months post op and am taking 2 chewable vitamins per day....they are starting to taste yucky! I was also low in Iron on my last blood test, so the dr put me on 1 iron tablet/day. I happened to be looking at the different vitamins in the store yesterday and found One A Day Maximum Vitamins. I am sure I would still need to take 2 of these (but probably be able to stop the Iron pill), but this particular vitamin has 100% DV of Vit C, D, E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vit B6, Folic Acid, Vit B12, Panthothenic Acid, Iron, Iodine, Zinc and Copper. It also has 31% Vit K, 10% Biotin, 16% Calcium, 11% Phosphorus, 25% Magnesium, 29% Selenium, 175% Manganese, 54% Chromium, 213% Molybdenum, 2% each of Cholride and Potassium. Like I said, I plan on calling the nutritionist tomorrow to see if it's ok to take these or if this would be too much vitamins (is there such a thing?), but I wanted to see what anyone here thought. Thanks again! Patti — Patti M. (posted on July 30, 2006)

I think you should ask your doctor about the vitamins but you might also
consider liquid vitamins, they are so easy to take.

Hi Patti:) I take 2 womens Centrum a day with Iron and I take Slow Fe is
which Iron and Caltrate (2) 600mg tablets daily I never could take the
chewable vitamins they made me sick. From the beginning I've been taking
tablets in the hospital just smaller ones I also take micro-k daily since
I'm sill on blood pressure meds. My blood levels have always been normal
every time I have blood work. I also take Biotin 5000mcg for my hair and
nails this is a B vitamin it helps you when and if you hair starts
shedding. The doctor says I'm not taking to much vitamins since we don't
absorbe like regular folks anymore.

I am not sure if 2 of those vitamins a day would still be enough? I know
it is not too much. I take a bariatric pack of vitamins twice daily which
has 2 multi's, 2 calcium each time (so that is 8 vitamins right there)..
And I also have to take a seperate iron with vitamin C to help it absorb
(not at the same time as the other vitamins). And now that I am pregnant
they have me taking an additional folic acid twice a day, and I also take
an additional Biotin twice a day!! So I take about 15 vitamins a day, and
sometimes that is STILL NOT ENOUGH!! So please make sure you check with
the nutritionist... I went a while without taking all these vitamins and
got very WEAK & sickly!!!

Keep your focus, and remember it is not how it taste that is important...I
was very mal nourished at one point, I gave up... I did get back on track,
I fell hard with nourishment...
Now I am on the best plan out there...I took chewables too, I still do as
well as another vitamins 3 times daily!
Just keep in mind, your body needs Nutrition and it needs balance to thrive
with protein.
Also remember your body can only absorb approx 24 to 28 grams of protein
per hour...
As a personal trainer and advisor...
Be kind to your body...
I love my new lean look... from 327 to 125, I now know how important being
healthy is!
It is not how food taste is is the nourishment behind the value of an obese
mind!
I encourage you all to reserch and find your "WHY" after WLS...
Hugs 2 u all!

Looking at vites as "100%" RDA can be misleading for us, since we
don't absorb all of it. Calcium must be taken as calcium citrate (Caltrate
is carbonate, so don't let the name mislead you) and q LOT of it, more than
2000mg. Iron is another chronic problem for us, and ferrous sulfate is the
least well absorbed. All iron must be taken with vit C, but not with
dairy, caffeine, whole grains, eggs or other vites, minerals or meds.
Alone together for an hour. I take 2 multi vites a day PLUS iron/C PLUS
calcium citrate, then specifically address the needs of a WLS pt in a
targeted way. A, D, E, zinc, B12, B1, B6, etc. Since I'm 12 yrs, no
one-size-fits-all fits me. Or anyone I know. By the way, the component
method is by far the cheapest way to address these issues, but there are a
few more pills involved. The way I look at it is that I lost 150# and I
can take 150 pills if I must. I don't have to, but I would to maintain my
loss & my health.
