Question:
Is it possible to have Lab Band if I already have had RNY?
I have gained back some weight and would like to get insurance approval for the lab band even though I have had the RNY gastric bypass 6 years ago. Does someone know about this situation? — hug (posted on November 20, 2005)

Yes, others have done it. but most surgeons don't do that.

I dont know of anyone who has had that done . as far as i know, the pouch
is much too small to put a band around it safely. a revision may be
possible to the orignal rny and i guess much safer in the long run.

can it be done? yes will you be able to get insurance approval - that would
certainly be 'questionable'. I had the lapband put on after the RNY and
my insurance paid for it. But it was to 'fix' a mecanical flaw of the RNY
not because I had gained some weight back. If you want it solely because
youve gained some weight and your RNY is 'intact' I seriously doubt you'll
get a surgeon or your insurance to approve it. If there is no mechanical
problem, then you would be required to 'qualify' just like anyone else; if
your 100 pounds overweight, then you might be successful.
