Question:
Anybody my size have surgery?
I am 400 pounds at 5ft 5". I am 30 years old and would like to have surgery. I would like to hear from people about my size who have had the surgery. Would like to know what results you got and what sizes you are now. Did you have to have excess skin removed etc. Thanks! — KRISTY W. (posted on October 24, 2003)

I started out at 5'4" and 427# (440 at my first consult). I've lost
201 pounds since my surgery and 214 overall to stand at 226 currently. I
want to get my chest done - I don't have much of an overhang on my belly -
suprisingly... I had an emergency appy in 1997 due to a ruptured appendix
and I think that the skin was stretched a little tighter then, which has
helped post-RNY. Please free free to read my profile and visit my web site
(the link's on my profile)...JR (open RNY 07/17/02 -201# since surgery,
-214# total, 13# til goal!!!)

I'm 5'7" and was 468 at time of surgery, age 42, on 6/24/03. In 4
months I'm down 124 lbs (143 from my highest weight) and I can tell I'm
going to need a TT and batwing removal. You're younger, so your skin might
snap back better. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself. Lisa.

Hey Kristy! Feel free to take a peek at my profile. I was 5'5 at the time
of surgery, 382 lbs. I am 5'3 and 3/4s now...lol. I currently weight 208
lbs. Goal weight is 170 ish. I am scheduled for my panniculectomy (similar
to a tummy tuck) this coming monday the 27th. That should get rid of a good
amount of pounds too.

Kristy,
I had surgery at 414 and am 5'4". I am down 109 pounds in seven
months. I have a long way to go. I went from a 34/36 to 22/24 in most
things.

Hey, you and I have almost the same stats--I'm 5'5", and I was 399
before surgery on 4/15/03 (though I'm a bit older--42). It's been six
months, and I've lost 105 lbs. I feel great, and have had no real
complications. Good luck to you!

Hi there! I am a tad over 5'5" and started out at 460 pounds. Within
a year I was down to 232. I hit 180 about 15 months out. I had the excess
skin removed from my thighs (they still aren't pretty), tummy tuck, breast
lifts and batwing removal from my upper arms. Currently, I am 3.5 years
out and weigh about 225. I would like to get back down to 200 anyway. I
hope this answers your question.

Come join us over at the Yahoo group WLS400Plus and you will meet many
people with your statistics. It is a restricted group for people who have
been or are over 400 lbs or a BMI of 65 or above. If people are close they
are let in also. I am one of the co-moderators so I would see your
application. It's a great group who truly udnerstand what it is to live
the life of a SMO.
<p>I'm 42, 5'9 and started at 442. I was a 34-36W pants and 4X-6X
top before surgery and now am a 20W working on 18W pants and 14-16 or an X
for tops. I've lost 186 lbs and have 56 to go to a goal weight of 200 lbs.
I am 8-3/4 months PO. There are many people who are at or have had your
statistics. The great majority are very successful after WLS as they are
so happy to have a life back and to be able to live that they truly embrace
their new healthy life. We SMO also tend to have more realistic ideas of
what a healthy life is and it's rarely a size 6. Most of us will be happy
in a 12-14 for the rest of our lives. I know I will. Hope you come join
us. This is a great site also, so I am not saying leave it, I'm just
offering a site that focuses on the SMO.

Hey Kristy! I'm 5'6" and weighed 399 lbs. on the day of surgery. I
just turned 31. I had WLS on 3/14/03 and am down 112 pounds in 7 months.
I have some hanging skin and will probably have to have some PS, but it's
all worth it to be weighing 287 today. My goal is to get around 150, but
anything under 200 is gravy! Good luck!

I am not real close to your measurements, but thought I'd try to help out.
5'0", beginning weight 341, at 328 on day of surgery, have lost 38
pounds in 26 days. I know that I will have saggy skin, especially, my
arms. Started at size 32, down to size 24. Goal weight is 130. Good
luck!!!

Kristy... I'm 5'6" and beginning weight was 390lbs... I'm now 18wks
out and have lost an amazing 97lbs thus far. I'm off all my former meds
and feel great even though I still have about 125lbs or so to go. I'm
going to have alot of loose skin to be removed once I lose all my weight
but not as much as I believed I would have. Feel free to email me any time
if you have any more questions or if you'd just like to have an email
buddy! God bless!! Amy :-)
