Question:
What does the typical pre op blood work consist of? What are they looking for?

They are checking your levels as far as protein, iron, bone density. They are looking to see if anything is irregular. We I had my pre op blood work done my doctor found out I was anemic and had low bone density.

Some surgeons also order special tests to see if you've got nicotine in your bloodstream, and stuff like that. But mostly, it's just to make sure that you won't have any bleeding or clotting problems during surgery, and if you're diabetic, they want to know how your blood sugar is, and stuff like that.
