Question:
Do you have paain when u eat?

I am 10 wks.post op. I can NOT eat most things! No meat what so ever! No chicken!I live on yogurt and ice pops! Still not eating 500 calories a day, and not losing more than a pound a week? I go for my 3 mo. check up 8/18, but looking for help here in the meantime. Thanks.    — MamaB422 (posted on July 31, 2008)

I had pain in my chest & occassional burning in my throat each time I ate anything other than popsicles. My doc. put me on acid reflux meds. and now I can eat pretty much anything. I still have a little trouble digesting red meats but everything else goes down fine. I'm 3 months post op. & still taking the reflux meds.

I read on you profile page that you ate two olives, threw up, and had to lie down. From the above, it seems it's meat that bothers you. Olives especially are hight in fat and depending on the cut of meat you get or how it is prepared, these can also be high in fat. Fat can cause you to dump which is what sounds like happened with the olives. Have you tried water packed tuna with Fat Free Miracle Whip. (I dumped on Low Fat Hellman's) Low fat Refried Beans with Fat Free Cheddar Cheese melted in the mirco with salsa? Oven Roasted Chicken or Turkey from the deli? You may want to keep a food diary noting especially which foods bother you and how they are prepared and then meet with your dietitian. Are you getting your vitamins, and fluid in every day? Is your yogurt sugar free and fat free like Source? Don't dispair about the weight. Keep doing the right things and your body will have to let go of the stored calories. I know it's frustrating. I only lost 5 pounds in the first three weeks. Hang in there! Laura

I had bypass on May 5,2008. Then 2 days after my stitches came out, I came down with vertigo! I was in bed for 3 more weeks and was so sick!

I had RNY on 4-2-08 and still cannot eat much meat. All I can keep in is chicken legs, or thighs, hamburger and fish. I have to get protein from other sources, and I still drink 1 to 2 protein shakes per day. My surgeon stated that some people have this problem for months after and to just keep trying new foods .

I am 3 yrs. RNY post op. I cannot eat certain meats to this day, again like previously posted, fatty cuts dont get it. I can only eat certain brands of chicken or turkey - some are too sweet or dont sit well. Just keep trying everything until you find what works. Before surgery I only ate sushi and thought UGH to sashimi. Now I cant eat sushi, and ONLY eat sashimi - I enjoy it now. Its a mind thing of what you can and cant eat. If you want to be healthy, you will do WHATEVER it takes. Good luck.

You're only 10 weeks out from having surgery on your stomach and intestines... they aren't fond of being manipulated much less cut and re-routed. You most likely need to give yourself a little extra time. As far as weight loss goes, it may be that your lack of calories is slowing down your weight loss. I think that this web page has great info... http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/nutritional-guidelines-after-roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-surgery.html You may need to go back to stage III (3) or stage IV (4) for a little bit until your stomach settles down more. I also think that if you are concerned enough about it to post on OH, then you need to call your surgeon and discuss it with him or her rather than waiting until your 3 month check up.
