Question:
Has anyone had the lap band going thru Aetna I have had a hard time getting info

Tracy, Yes. I was just approved by Aetna. What information do you need. Let me know. You basically need to follow a 3 month physician supervised diet and exercise program. Coverage does vary by Aetna policy.

Hi I have Aetna but had bypass and it is very hard to get info from Aetna. Just keep calling and eventually you will connect to the right person. They faxed me all the qualifications for surgery and it is a lot of paper LOL Don't give up they DO cover lap band. By the way they paid 90% on my surgery. Good Luck Bev

I also have Aetna and was approved for the RNY surgury which I had done on Oct. 3, 2007. My suggestion is work with your doctor's office, as they know what Aetna requires and will help you to meet their requirements. I went through the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and they were great every step of the way. A warning though, it is a pretty long process to get approved by any insurance, but stick to it and you will get there before you know it. Robert

Tracy, call Aetna to see if you have the weight loss surgery benefit, if you do, look on Aetna.com and search for Clinical Policy Bulletin 0157 and it will explain all that must be done to be approved. Hope all goes well!
