Question:
Protein drink recipes

Does anyone have recipes for protein drinks? I can not stand the smell of the protein (I use unjury and something from GNC). The nutritionist says it is flavor free and odor free but I think she is nuts! It gags me to drink it.... so I don't. I get next to no protein on a daily basis and I know I HAVE to. Any suggestions? Thanks.    — AllieT (posted on August 10, 2007)

Hi Allie, I had the same problem they all tasted horrible to me so I started my preop diet with glucose control boost in choclate but it only has 16 g protein per 8oz. So post op I have been doing EAS Advent EDGE it tastes like brownie batter and it has 30g protein when it is mixed with milk. I have heard of Any Whey it supposed to be tasteless but I have never tried it. Hope that helps.

Allie...If you're anything like me and do NOT want to waste any money on full size containers of protein, why not try "sample sizes" to find out what you can tolerate? I found a site some time ago that offers a case of 6 sample sizes from 8 different brands in 72 flavors to choose from at a reasonable price of only $9.30. You might want to try several of the Syntrax, Nectar fruit flavors. Go to "create-a-case" at http://www.wlssupplies.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=224&cat=38&page=1 Hope it works for you! Hi Allie, I use this stuff called protien 100, it is liquid and you cant even taste it. Throughout the day you need 8 tablespoons to make 60 grams of protien. Mix it in yogurt or your drinks or whatever. I bought it at a natural foods store here in Connecticut, but I'm sure they would have it everywhere. Good luck.

Even my son who is thin and 26 loves this shake: 8 oz. skim or soy (unsweetened reg or vanilla) milk, 1/2 container of danon lite and fit yogurt, a few frozen strawberries, bananas or blueberries, 1 or 2 scoops of vanilla or strawberry protein powder (I like Walker available at vitacost.com or Vitamin World brand), 5 ice cubes. Blend until creamy. It's delicious! Protein total is the amount from the powder plus the milk....the boxed soy milk has 9 grams of protein and fewer carbs than skim and you can't taste the difference.

I have the same problem. I tried the tasteless Any Whey from GNC and I hated it. Also, EAS in French Vanilla, and even something else I don't remember in chocolate powder. The other day another user suggested a drink called Naked Juice, the protein version. It's about 16oz. and has 38 grams of protein. I drink 1/2 bottle in the morning and the other after lunch. This tastes great compared to everything else I have tried. This has a fruit juice flavor. It's made with 100% fruit and juices of apple, orange, banana, and coconut. I had to get it at the whole foods store in town. Good luck!

My nutritionist recommends Medifast 70 protein drinks. They have 14 g of protein per shake. Banana Creme and French Vanilla are really good.
