Question:
Anyone with obstruction issues 5 years post op? RNY surgery?
I had RNY 2004 and last night I ate a regular meal, and this morning I woke up and I can't keep water or anything down. I am not sick. It feels like when I first had the surgery and ate too much. Except, nothing will go down. It feels like it gets stuck and then comes back up. Please anyone with this experience, especially so long after surgery please let me know what I should do. I did just have a baby 6 weeks ago, and my doc said that obstructions can happen while your pregnant, but after? — sdg090906 (posted on July 25, 2009)

Call you doctor!!! No matter what, food not staying down is a serious
issue, especially if you have just had a baby and need to be there for your
child. Don't wait. Call your doctor!

Whenever I feel something stuck I always chew some Papaya Enzyme tablets.
You can get them anywhere, and they are what they make meat tenderizer out
of, they help break down whatever is stuck. GOOD LUCK!

Hello!! See the doctor. The only time I did that was when I had a
stricture about 4-6 months after surgery 2x's. Are you having any type of
BM? Do not get dehydrated as that will happen with you not keeping
anything down. If it is a stricture they will just place a catheter down
to stomach and balloon it out...it doesn't hurt. The worse thing was just
the IV but other than that it wasn't bad. They put you to sleep when this
procedure is done. Kinda like an EGD. Hope this helps...and hope you get
better....keep everyone posted as to what this was...GOOD LUCK!!!

I am 6 years post op and last Nov 08, I started having obstruction issues,
I have been hospitalized 6 times this year alone for that reason. All they
ever do is IV fluids, IV Protonix and NPO (nothing by mouth). Also CT's
X-rays and lab work. I usually spend 3-5 days there doing this routine and
by the time he discharges me everything is working like it's supposed to.
But like the others said, I do hope by now you have called your doctor.
Always call him for anything that will not go in or anything that will not
come out and anything that causes pain in the abdominal area.
Take care of that new baby and good luck!!

I had the strangest most wful pains for over two years that felt like
'obstructions'...come to find out my appendix had shriveled up and 'died'
and had to be removed after exploratory surgery...not only that but it was
in the wrong place...right below my ribcage...please do not let your doctor
write you off with a prescription and demand that they take a closer look
at your problem...do not suffer as i did with severe abdominal pain and
several trips to the ER by ambulance or otherwise...
