From your post, I'm unable to tell if it's a normal insurance referral appointment or an appt. with the RNY surgeon's office. Many insurance companies require some attempt at a diet. My insurance wanted proof of a medically supervised diet program of 6 months duration--which I had done. Without this previous program, I would have been on an Optifast program for 6 months. If it's your RNY office visit, I would assume the surgeon would be there for a consult for you, or maybe this office has a office manager for consult purposes? At any rate, protocols very between insurance companies and RNY surgeons. Almost all RNY surgeons want you to try to lose additional wt the last 3-4 weeks prior to surgery to help lose fatty liver deposits. My post is in reference to the RNY procedure, as you did not state which wt loss procedure you were requesting. DAVE

There is nothing to be prepared for...or that any of us can even guess what will be discussed at your first appointment...Just relax and follow what they tell you...Different doctors have different protocol as well and so what one surgeon has his patients do, another will not...Many put their patients on liquid diets for weeks...Mine didn't...Some have you on liquids only, after surgery and again...mine doesn't...So if you have a surgeon that has his own rules, you need to follow those as close as you can REGARDLESS if others "tsk tsk" and shun you for not doing what THEIR surgeons have them do. So it's best to just wait and see what your surgeons needs from you in order for HIM to operate on you.

My first visit was last week, and I am sure if will be different from yours. I saw the following people: psycho., nuitritionist, P.A. for a small physical, another nurse for background info. I was there from 8:30 - 2:30. Good luck. Jan

If this is your first first. Bring a list of the medications you are taking and how often. preceptions and over the counter. I typed up a list and made copies to hand out to all my DR. This is much easier then trying to remember the name, strength and dosage of a drug while answering more questions. Just relax everything will go well. Good luck. Have a great day.

I went for my visit on 2/27 and seen the surgeon , the dietician and a consultant. My doctor ask me some personal questions and we discussed why I want to have the operation. I needed to bring a 3 day meal log for the dietician to look over. The dietician went over my diet and we discussed what I was missing from my diet. She asked me if was going to a support group, and if I was doing any exercise . We also went over the vitamins I'm taking. The consultant talked with me about what my goal weight will be in order to have the RNY. The whole visit was about 2 hours long. Every doctor does things diffrent just follow what they tell you to do and evrything will be ok. Im 11 pounds away from the goal weight, and 1 pound away from seeing the physiologist. God bless you on your journey, and don't worry everything will be ok. Theresa
