Question:
Is it normal to be 2 weeks Post Op and have no problem eating 4oz at a time?
I am two weeks Post Op. I have lost 33 lbs since I started the Liver Shrink 4 weeks ago. I have had no problems whatsoever since surgery with my eating. I ate puree until my 2 week follow up appointment with my surgeon and he has advanced me to "Stage 3." This means introducing one new food a day. I've started with grilled chicken and again had no problem. I've consistantly been eating about 4oz per meal and feel like I may be eating too much, but I have no feeling of being overly full! I realize I may be so lucky to have had no problems or complications, but I'm worried I could be eating too much too early and could stretch my pouch. Is this normal? — ShannyM (posted on May 7, 2008)

It takes longer to heal on the inside than on the outside. I wouldn't push
it. Your staple line is still healing if you had RNY. I am 5 months out
and can only hold about 4-6 oz at a time. Good luck to ya!

It is hard at this stage to strech the pouch. Just do what the Doc's tell
you to and keep up the good work! You are lucky that you are not having
disconfort. Head hunger is all you fell, so don't try to do too much or
eat the wrong things. THis is just a tool to get you to the sucess you are
looking for, a new slender you. Best of success to you.

I had RYN on January 8, 2008 and have had no problems whatsoever. I was on
food by the end of one month. I was introducing one new food a day as well
and nothing bothered me. Not sure if that is good or bad, but I have lost
a total of 61 pounds as of date. Just be careful not to overeat and eat
the right foods and you will do fine! Good luck

I had RNY December 28, 2006. At my one week checkup I was told I needed
more colories and the only way to do that was to add purreed food. At
three weeks I was told to go to soft foods, chewed well and at five weeks I
was told that I could try anything (within reason). I, too, had no
problems with any foods and at 16 months out I can eat a bit of anything I
choice to eat, but I think those of us who are blessed in this way have the
chore of being particularly vigilante in following the rules. I think a
key one is not to drink anything with meals and to wait at least 30 minutes
after eating (including snacks) to drink. I usually go an hour or more.
This makes the feeling of being saited stay with you and the head hunger,
munchies pretty much stay at bay. If you are not getting the sensation of
being full it is OK, especially this early out. I believe that you may be
pretty numb to the things going on due to the healing process. Just stick
the no more than 4 to 6 oz to get the hang of the portion sizes, keep a
food journal counting calories and protein grams. If you are consuming the
proper amount of food and not feeling hungry, it is OK if you don't feel
"stuffed". When you do feel that full feeling, stop then, even
if some of your portion is still on your plate. Hope this helps some.

I have been eating pretty much anything I want since about a week and a
half out of surgery. Like you it scared the pooh right out of me. I was a
light weight going into this so I knew my weight loss was going to be
slower than most. I am 7 1/2 months out and have lost just a little over
70lbs with only about 40 to go, I haven't been able to do any regular
exercising due to some other circumstances and I feel I hit my palteaus a
little longer than others but I am very pleased with my progress so far.
Just do as everyone else has said and watch very carefully what you eat.
