Question:
IS this normal?

I am almost 5 weeks post op. I am having a ripping feeling in my right abdomin. It is so bad that it almost drops me to the floor when it happens. I am both worried and scared!    — Alvernlaw (posted on June 30, 2007)

And the reason why you haven't contacted your surgeon or gone to the emergency room asap is??????????????

I have no idea what it might be but if the pain almost drops you to the floor, and you are worried and scared it is time to call the Dr or go to the ER. Bad pain in our abdomins is nothing to "guess" about. We will have to be more careful then ever about things like this. Good Luck!

Instead of being on here asking that question, you need to get to the ER or call you doctor, NOW!

You really need to either go to the ER or at least call your surgeon and let him/her know what is going on. It could be something as simple as a pulled stitch (which is what I did at about 3 weeks out and it hurt like hell), or as serious as your appendix, your gall bladder, or an issue having to do with your weight loss surgery. This is nothing to play with and you really need to get a professional opinion like yesterday. It really amazes me how many people ask questions like this on the boards without calling their surgeon first.

The reason people come here instead of the Dr. or the ER is that 'fat' girls complaints have been ignored for years!! We 'deserve' what we get.

I have had the same thing on my left side. I contacted my surgeon and ended up in the hospital for 3 days with tests being ran to make sure I was okay. Got out this morning and it was dehydration and constipation... I did learn that I am clueless about anatomy and a colon goes up to right below your ribs.

Hi Linda, thanks for writing. The body does not easily rip, but what you are going through is not normal. Please run, don't walk to your phone and call your surgeon. I don't think that your pain is normal at all. But, realize that just because you have pain and this aweful feeling, doesn't mean it is a life threatening problem ok. Breathe, and don't be scared, let them figure it out, and you breathe and get help. Let us know how you make out. Thanks. Patricia P.
