Question:
Any other anxious Sept 7th pre-ops out there?

How about a few words of wisdom as far as what you could'nt live without at the hospital.    — mrsSmith6830 (posted on September 5, 2006)

Only thing i needed in the hospital that the hospital didnt provide was chapstick and I made sure i had boxer underwear so would feel less of a 'breeze' with thoes damn gowns. As far as other sept 7th pre-ops, have you checked out the sep 2006 message board?

I echo the chapstick. Vital. If you have long hair, something to tie it back with and a brush. Hospital gave me everything else. You won't need much in the form of books, games. You'll be too busy either napping or walking. Or being poked and prodded by a nurse. Hehe. Good luck.

Hi and peace to you! Okay, although I didn't *need* a whole lot (YES on the chapstick!) I brought with me my own pillow and blanket (made it feel less harsh and way more familiar), a radio and ONE CD that I had mixed myself with over an hour's worth of music on it, and (most importantly) a notebook and a couple pencils and pens. Without the notebook I wouldn't have been able to write about my experiences before and after surgery and then post them on my profile when I got home. Oh yeah, I also brought a camera and snapped shots all over, from pre-op to sitting outside in the wheelchair going home. (Check out my profile!) It was a great documentary with the notebook and the camera, and those are definitely two things I found essential and am glad I brought with me. Good luck!

I, This one might sound stupid, but was a lifesaver for me.. I brought a pair on tongs.. Like cooking ones.. I used them for picking stuff up and also for scratching when I had an itch.. I wasnt sure which surgery you were having, but I had open rny, and had an epidural done and didnt realize that one of the side effects is that you itch alot, so those tongs sure came in handy.. Good luck and best wishes tomorrow!! Tomorrow will be the first day of your new life and you are going to love it!!! Take care!!! April

I agree with the chapstick but also a nice smelling lotion. Another important item for me was my tea bags- it was still rather cool in Denver in April so hot tea was a way to get my fluids in- I found the peppermint flavor seemed to go down well- also my hospital has a sugar free Italian Lemon Ice which was fantastic and they only stocked it for the WLS patients. Good luck.
