You just had your surgery. Did you Dr say you could eat solid food? Please call his office and check with the nutritionist and his staff before you make any decision on what you want to eat. You Dr office is the one who have the answer right now. Dani

Would you give that food to a new born baby? That is what you new tummy is, a new born baby. Your insides need to heal. The spicey foods can burn the area where they created your new pouch and rejoined your intestinal track. I am guessing that you had RNY, I could not locate what type of surgery you had on your profile. You need to touch base with your surgeon's office on your diet phases. I would be willing to bet that s/he will say no spicy foods for close to three months. Diana, now is the time for you to start learning a new life style. Try channeling those cravings into something constructive for your new life. Go out for a walk or take up a new hobby to occupy yourself instead of caving into the cravings.

Hi Diana, I started eating spicy Indian & Mexican food about a week ago. I am 26 days post op. My doc said to try things and see how it works with you. I started out with Lentil based Curries and Pintos & Cheese for Mexican. I did eat some dosas and Uttapam the other day and it was okay. Dosas gave me some gas but other than that, it was okay. I probably wouldn't eat dosas for a while though. Sambhar and Lentil curries such as Dal Makhani, Moong Daal etc were just fine. Just ask your doc and if he says okay to try, try it out a little and see how your tummy takes it. - Chris

I totally understand where you are coming from. My surgery (laproscopic RNY) was done in Scottsdale January 18th and I was told that I would have to wait for green chile until after my four-month checkup. Since I live in New Mexico, this is particularly frustrating. Every Dr.'s program/instructions are slightly different so I agree with those that advised you to contact your Dr. and see what he (she?) says. Mary-Margaret

As has been suggested, you should wait until you can eat solid foods and that you have healed properly, but I could NOT handle spicy food before surgery and now I LOVE it! Can't get enough! It's replaced sweets as my addiction of choice. :) And the beauty is - no heartburn - ever!!
