Question:
When will I feel less "sick"?

I read some posts regarding return of energy and that was very helpful because I'm little more the 2 weeks post-op and am not feeling very energetic. But the other thing that concerns me is that I feel a lot like I did when I was first pregnant with my daughters -- I had morning sickness that lasted all day. I never vomited but felt a little queasy a lot of the time. That's how I've been feeling since the surgery -- just not quite right. Also, it bothers me to have anything the slightest bit snug around my middle. This is really a weird feeling because I've also been craving "real" food -- solids like scrambled eggs and green beens. (In case you were wondering, I am definitely not pregnant.) Have others felt like this? How long before this feeling subsides?    — skileysc (posted on February 4, 2006)

It took a good 6 weeks to have the feeling of energy again. Your body went through a major surgery and it will take 6-8 weeks to heal and adjust to the dietary changes. The nausea you are having could be the after effects of anesthesia, which will take 6-8 weeks to fully leave your body, and could also be from being dehydrated from not taking in as much fluids as you were prior to surgery. Your abdomen will be swollen for a while as it heals. I had to wear elastic pants for a few weeks due to the swelling and healing in the area. The food thing will get easier once you start to eat more solid foods. hang in there and if you have any more questions, feel free to email. Shelly

It took me about 3-4 weeks to feel better...but took a little longer til I felt comfortable wearing anything snug on my tummy. I lived in sweats for the first weeks...but that is normal..you are still swollen inside and that pressure is uncomfortable. I also craved 'real' food...because I knew that I couldn't have it. As I've progressed I've had some of the foods that I craved and was always disappointed that it didn't taste as good as I remembered it tasting. Be sure you are taking your vitamins and getting plenty of protein...all of that helps make you feel better.

Sic or seven weeks post op was the magic date for me. Energy and feeling so much better! Eat your three meals per day and two or three snacks.......liquids, pureed only. Drink you liquids, too. Dehydration can leave you feeling queasy with morning sickness- like feelings. Good luck. I ate cream of wheat, yogurt, jello, refried beans, oatmeal, etc. You will feel more energy as you are able to eat more. Make sure you are drinking at least two protein supplements per day. Lack of the protein will also make you feel lifeless!

Wow, I had exactly the same pregnacies as you! I had "morning sickness" 24-7!!!! I felt the same as you at first. Don't foget, you have just had major surgery, and your system replumbed! It takes a while to get your energy back, and then you get it and more! As the weight comes off, your body quickly adapts and you get more energy. LOL - I did not want to eat, though, and still sometimes do not want to eat, and I am a year out!
