Question:
What to eat during pureed phase
I started the pureed diet a few days ago. I tried the poached egg, it made me so sick. Potatoes are fine pureed with either beef or pork. Any other suggestions, im sick of potatoes. — sassy1696 (posted on March 31, 2009)

I couldn't eat eggs for over a year...I think it was the fat in the
yolk...I could eat egg beaters with cooked veggies because they use the egg
white and not the yolk...I made a lot of homemade chicken soups...I took a
whole chicken and boiled it with carrots, onions, garlic, celery,
spices...With the meat and stock I made all kinds of meals...I would puree
the meat and veggies with some broth for a thick meal...Or I'd add garbonzo
or other beans pureed...Or add chili powder, cumin and kidney beans and
mild cooked peppers for a chicken chili soup/puree...I'd use the broth for
split peas and add some cooked ham and carrots...I kept little freezer bags
of the broth and meat for different things...Sometimes I added a little
tomato sauce and melted parm cheese to the soup meat...I made a lot of
stews and hearty soups with all kinds of beans and different meats and
boiled veggies of all kinds...My pantry is always stocked with several
types of protein/fiber rich beans...I make separates like pork with goat
cheese or yogurt dip...with a side of sweet potato...Or tuna, mayo, with
cheese melt on saltines (until you can have whole grains and fiberous
crackers) Cottage cheese with NSA canned peaches or mashed fresh banana or
applesauce...Greek yogurt (has three times the amount of protein than
regular yogurt and tastes like sour cream!yum!) with SF-seedless preserves
mixed in...Broth with TVP (texured vegetable protein) and other cooked
veggies (pureed of course)...Cream of broccoli soup with cheddar
cheese...Add some extra chicken to cream of chicken or cream of mushroom
soup...Get creative! You can enjoy pureed food when you stop thinking it
all has to be so bland and boring! Just try one new thing at a time and eat
slowly...Some things might bother you and some things might not. I pureed
anything that I was feeding my family...They ate a lot of stews and soups
the first year! LOL Or roasted meats. Just keep your meats moist with
broth (I use little packets of broth mix/boullion when I needed a little
moisture and flavor)or canned or homemade broths.... It makes meats go down
easier...pureed oatmeal with vanilla protein powder and cinnamon...And a
dab of greek yogurt on top! Make protein smoothies as well adding all
kinds of berries and fruit ingredients (once you are allowed raw fruits) Or
try extracts and sf syrups and spices...even add yogurt or, sf whipped
cream, almond milk (one of my favs), a little peanutbutter...etc... to your
protein smoothies...Go ahead and eat! Small and slowly! But enjoy it!

I am on the pureed stage too. I eat beans and bean soup. I can tolerate
both well and neither makes me too gasy. I also eat cottage cheese. My
NUT says Wendy's Chilli is acceptable although I have not tried it yet.
All items with the acceptation of cottage cheese should be blended a
little. Good luck! Isnt it great to be on the loosing side?

I pureed ground beef with beef broth and chicken with chicken broth and
then put them in ice cube trays and froze them so that I had enough for a
week. I could pop out a couple of cubes and microwave for meals. Stay away
from things that aren't high in protein because you need alot of protein
and don't need to fill your pouch up with empty foods. I also liked chili,
black beans with low fat sour cream, taco meat pureed.Good luck. Remember
it's only for a short time. Soon you will be progressing to regular food.

I just finished the pureed food but I actually didn't puree any food. My
nutritionist said soft fish such as perch or flounder would be okay without
blending so I ate cottage cheese or eggs for breakfast and fish the other
meals. I baked, steamed, sauted and had no difficulty unless I ate too
quickly. I'm now slowly expanding what I'm eating. Trying to slow down
enough is still my hardest problem. Kevin

Louise, you won't believe what I did. I bought a salmon Lean Cuisine while
on pureed foods. I knew salmon was high in protein so I cooked the whole
lean Cuisine and then threw the whole thing in the blender and pureed it -
veggies, rice, fish and all. It didn't look very pretty but was tasty and I
had no trouble with it.
