Hi Debbie,
I can't see what surg you had. But, I had Gastric Bypass last July 1,08. I
also went thru the same feelings. I suggest you contact the person at your
Drs. office you where told to contact if you had any trbl, or questions. It
may be you are not chewing well enough, taking to large of a bite. Also,
foods may be to fatty for you or sugar content to much. I still am not
hitting the "Iam hungry" yet. Keep up your drinking and I
learned to make friends with the frozen SUGAR FREE Fudge & Pop sicles.
The cold helped me alot! We have to learn to eat all over again. Take it
slowly..best of luck.

I'll assume you had RNY, since you don't mention which surgery you had. If
you had RNY, your statement is pretty normal for most post ops. Appetitie
may take 2-3 months to return, at a slow pace. You have to eat and drink
fluids throughout the day. Many have to set timers to remind themselves to
eat or drink. Feeling "sick" after eating may be due to eating
too fast, now chewing well enough, or consuming too much. Take your time
when eating. I found that attending support meetings (I attend 3 a month)
helped me understand the post op "situations" that may occur. You
may think something is wrong, but in most cases, you are undergoing a
normal transition to your new modified digestive system. Attend some
support meetings, where you can share your experiences, get answers to your
questions, learn from other post ops, and meet new friends with your same
recovery questions. DAVE

I had the DS, I'm 3 weeks out, and I'm having the same problem. My doctor
insists on pureed for six weeks, which is basically already throughly
chewed. The stage 2 baby food meats suck, however I can tolerate the fruits
and some of the vegetables. I have a mini food processor that I can put
the foods I like in to puree. I have found that I can eat deviled eggs, and
cooked shrimp(frozen P&D, just thaw and eat). The shrimp I chew
myself, no pureeing. I can also eat a mix of finely ground hamburger and
mashed potatoes. Cooked fish might also work for you, since it is very
soft and easy to mash up with a fork or chew before swallowing. I'm not
sure what nutritional guidelines RNY's have, but for me it's protein,
protein, protein, so that's where I focus my search for things to eat. I
let the vitamin supplements take care of the fruit & veggie
requirements for now.

Yes...I felt this way as well. While I had no major malfunctions
eating...It didn't feel good to eat either...It gradually began to feel
better...Some days, nothing I ate felt good and I almost dreaded eating
because of all the gassy rumbly, nauseous feelings...When I didn't eat my
pouch was calm and that was the only time I felt "normal"...But
like my Nut told me...it will get better...and not to give up on
foods...She told me not to try more than one or two new foods to my diet a
week...and to take my time. She also told me about papaya enzymes and how
they literally shred protein and help with digestion..and that truly helped
me eat meats easier especailly if it began to feel stuck! OUCH! (I still
use it)...By three months, I was eating more and feeling a better daily. I
started probiotics and that helped a lot with gas especially since about
that time I realized I was seriously lactose intolerant so that helped with
dairy and protein (whey) drinks too! That's when things really got
better...But it does take some of us longer to heal inside...Things like
onions, tomatoes and anything acidy just made me so ill! I couldn't eat
any raw fruit or veggies for months! Even as long as a year! All I can say
is it gets better! I totally enjoy eating now...almost everything and
anything! I feel totally normal...I still use probiotics (or yogurt) too!
Really helps with gas!
