Hi Donna, I live in GA, so can't speak for NC, but I am in the process of
getting my surgery set up in the near future. Medicare and Medicaid does
pay for WLS, but acording to my insurance person, it's the lap band they
won't cover. Somebody somewhere has it wrong, but I'm not sure who. You
might want to give the doctor you are considering a call and speak to the
person in their office about it. After reading that last post, I am going
to double check mine too. One good thing I discovered, Whichever one
pays, they approve it pretty much 95% of the time. My doc's office isn't
even submitting for approval. They just are going to set the surgery date
as soon as I complete the prerequisites and then they will bill
Medicare/Medicaid.
Works for me and I can't wait!
Good luck and hope this helps some.

Hi Dana, i think in most states medicaide covers the surgery..but i think
the type of surgery lapband vs. R N Y varies. I am in CA and medical paid
for my R N Y surgery & my tummy tuck

In KY it is different with Medicare and/or Medicaid. The won't precert the
surgery at all. The doctor makes you sign a form saying if
Medicare/Medicaid doesn't pay for the surgery that you are responsible for
the entire amount. It often appears that one meets the criteria for for
surgery and then you are denied after surgery has been performed. I would
check with Medicaid in NC and get something in writing before proceeding.
