Question:
Do the Nioxin products really work?

I have had a couple stylists recommend the Nioxin system to help me grow my hair back. It's kind of expensive so I would like to know if it has helped anyone else grow their hair back. Thanks!    — posprudence (posted on August 4, 2007)

I would recommend biotin and selenium as suggested by a friend who lost alot of hair and this worked for her. I also purchased all organic shampoo without chemicals and additives. I feel chemicals really react to your weight loss and hair growth.

You know what honey, your hair will grow back whether you use products or not. Just give it a couple of months. Your hair will grow in fuller and healthier than before. I know so many people used products and so many did not, but everyone's hair grew in just as it was previous.

My stylist also recommended Nioxin. I used it for about three months when the hair loss was at it's peak. It seemed to help slow it down. If nothing else it made me feel like I was doing something. The best thing you can do for your hair is keep your protien intake up where it needs to be. All I can say about hair loss is that this too will pass.

As a stylist I will tell you that Nioxin really works. There is scientific based knowledge on their website if you are still unsure. I have been to many demonstrations for Nioxin and was very impressed. Also, you have to use Nioxin as directed. You have to use it as your main shampoo and conditioner, it is made to work to strip the gunk off your scalp and help with the regrowth of hair folicals. The styling line is wonderful and is specifically designed for thinning and fine hair. So, remember to drink your protein shakes and find a friend who is a stylist and can get you product at a discounted rate... best of luck!

I used Nioxin, I used biotin...all the hair vitamins and minerals...my hair still fell out. I think it's kind of a moot question when someone says it worked for them..how do they know it wouldn't have gotten better without spending all that money. Maybe it DID work for me and I just didn't know it..because perhaps I was really going to be completely bald? Once again...a moot question...who really knows what would have been? Just keep up with lots of protein, your vites and minerals....take care of yourself...and your hair will take care of itself...eventually. Regards~

Your hair will grow back on its own if you are taking in the proper amount of protein. If you are not taking protein supplements, you should start. No product will help unless you have the protein your body needs to support itself.

I was told by two of our dieticians that products like that treat only the hair that has grown and not the actual follicle. Perhaps Rogaine for women would be better?? I have heard of people using that but it seems to be only mildly effective. I am 20 months out and over the last six months my has gotten alot thicker, but is coming in a brown/auburn color instead of the original black. Goodluck, it will get better over time

I strongly recommend Biotin. It is available in two dosages (1000 and 5000). I have been taking 5000mg twice a day, and it works great. No side affects.

I am 3 months out from my surgery and have entered the hair loss stage. All along, I have been using the Nioxin nutrient treatment at night. I have gotten my recommended 60g of protein, and get more than my share of water in every day. Yet, I was starting to get the clumps of hair within the last half of the month. I broke down and bought the shampoo and conditioner to add to the treatment and have not regreted it! Now, instead of clumps of hair, I am getting one or two strands everyday. Not to mention, but my hair is feeling absolutely great. Silky and bouncy. I figure I will not have to pay the price for it for long. But within one week of using the shampoo and conditioner, I saw results. I suggest JcPennys hair salon to buy the product (usually cheaper) and start with a small bottle if you are unsure. JcPennys normally sells a three piece set. good luck

yes it does for a fact work, i used it, for months in fact, and then when it started coming out again after i had my lower face lift done it started coming out again, so i started using the product again and again it lessened the loss so much, i swear by the stuff and i would recommend it highly!

I used Nioxin and it didn't do anything but drain my bank account, and I'm talking I lost 1/3 of my hair (I am now 7 months out) I started using Mane & Tail Shampoo from Sally's Beauty Supply ($4.99 a bottle) and my hair started growing back immediately. It even grew in curly! Best of luck!

i used nioxin for almost a yr and it did nothing except iiritate my scalp! I kept using it because my bestfriend (a hairdresser) said I wasn't giving it a chance!!! Anyway it did nothing for me ! My dr says if you get your protein in the loss should be minimal, I am not at the hairloss stage being only 5 weekd out!

I'm not sure about Nioxin products, and I haven't had my surgery yet. But I do have very thin hair and I just found Sauve has a great product that has been helping me a lot.. I can not believe how think my hair is getting only after one week of using it.. Its in a blue bottle and it says on it for thinning hair/hair loss.. I'm hoping that it will work after the surgery for me to.. I really love it and my husband made a coment about "my grays" not being so noticeable :) and i haven't colored my hair since winter..lol.. that coment alone was worth the 2 bucks it cost for the Sauve. Hope this helps.. Paula
