~Hi Dark chocolate...
I will let you know that i had alot of snacking problems before surgery,
although my problem had alot to do with stopping smoking i did cheat alot
during the 2 week period. The outcome was going under expecting a lap RNY
and waking up with a huge scar because they had to convert to an open. I
know that is not true for everyone who cheats, but it can cause your liver
to be too large to view past in a lap case. The whole purpose of the 2 week
pre-op diet is to shrink the liver. This is just one outcome you could face
if you don't follow your doctors care to the T....I learned the hard way
~I had surgery 4/5/06~ am 6'1" and weighed 323 pre-op i am now 22 days
post-op and am down to 300
I wish you great success on your journey to join us on the losing
side...your gonna do great !!!!

What does the doctor Know, you picked him out of the yellow pages, go ahead
and binge, its like the jaywalker in front of you, did you have a couple of
drinks, or not, did you fix the brakes, or are you talking on the cell
phone, if you hit him, the insurance company pays his bills, fixes your
car,and you dont miss supper. Your life, based on the response of a
internet forum.

why cheat? If you are serious about the surgery stop cheating now. IF you
dont have the will power to not cheat 2 weeks prior what are you going to
do after surgery? You may be a dumper and you may not.. if you dont dump
does that mean you are going to cheat then too? Seriously think about it.
Also, If I didnt follow the diet and I weighed the same or more as I did on
the last diet the dr would cancel my surgery becuase he doesnt want to work
around an enlarged liver.

why would you want to cheat? if you can't stick to the first 2 weeks, how
are you going to handle life after the surgery? If you are even thinking
about cheating then maybe you shouldn't have the surgery. I'm waiting for
my surgery date, but I've slowly started on the liquids by replacing one
meal with a protein drink and by eating smaller meals so when the time
comes I will be able to do the liquid fast. One last thing, if you can do
this fast and be honest and not cheat, then you can do anything after that.

Hello
I did cheat 2 . But I still dry to eat really light and lean. No fat stuff.
Here in germany you should be on a soupe diet about 2 weeks before Op if
you weight more than 270Ib. Well like I said I did cheat and luckely it
worked out ok.

Not all doctors require a rigid, strict diet or require certain amount of
weight loss. My doctor required NO diet at all! I ate Brazilian BBQ the
night before surgery. Some docs are very vocal about the fact that if we
could diet and lose weight, we wouldn't need surgery. Duh! I know that
all docs are different. Now, don't beat yourself up... get back on that
"pre-op diet" horse and continue on your way to a new life. :)

Dark Chocolate,
My doc had me on 3 slimfasts per day to shrink the liver. I grilled
him extensively on why he wanted slimfast. He said it was due to the
limited fat and carbs that the liver shrinks. He did allow 2 slimfasts and
a sensible meal if I needed but preferred 3 slimfasts no food. I ate a
dill pickle (not sweet) or a half cup of sugar fee-fat free ice cream, or 1
piece of beef jerkey or some sugar free jello occasionally. However I made
sure I did not exceed the combined amount of fat or carbs from just the
slim fast. I would substitute one of these in place of the slimfast.
certain canned soups such as tomato or low fat mushroom made with
water-no milk could be substituted for a slimfast.
3 days before surgery I only did slim fast with no substitutions. Eat your
vitamins too. I was told my liver shrunk very well.
